Interesting, Mildred and June might have got on dont know about Terry and George though. IMO the neighbour in T and J,Tarquin, was just an older version of Jeffrey from George and Mildred, as well as sharing a name with one of his sons.
Actors have no power of veto for shows aired on Gold unless it was stipulated in their original contract which is extremely rare and I know of not a single example.
George and Mildred was usually about 8 months between a series, it was actually 2 months between series 3 and 4 (I think...) . The only time it was a year gap was in 1979, and that was because of the technician strikes.
It is mentioned, just not as much as the other two. It was mainly a space problem. The book already runs to 256pp so it was a case of nattering most about the two most successful shows...
FDF is great.. I do like Patrick Cargill. Keep it in the family is good too, as its on a similar sort of plot line (but with added stacey dorning )
Hilda Baker was hilarious, would love to see repeats of Nearest and Dearest. Like you I prefer On The Buses to George and Mildred, maybe because I find George so irritating. The way he tries to avoid sleeping with Mildred seems daft, it,s not as if she,s a horror like Olive I find Mildred,s put downs to her snobby sister hilarious, though.
I only noticed yesterday that George & Mildred is back on so I've missed two weeks of episodes. I did look on Virgin Catch-up but couldn't find it though ??
A book about ON the Buses has only just been published and it had a foreward from Wofle/Chesney. DO we need another one?
How about Robins Nest?
Yes - much better than the series 2 onwarRAB credits
Is that David Barry from Please Sir who played Frankie Abbott?
He must be well gutted about Liz Gebhardt ,Malcolm McFee and most recently good old Peter Denyer.
How about a book on that series with The Fenn Street Gang?
What book?
I agree george and mildred is great but I much prefer Rising Damp. Leonard Rossiter was just wonderful in that, and Frances was my next door neighbour for three years!
You don't get the term "coloured" these days either.
Which goes to show the programme is not racist and never was , and worrying about things that were different more than 30 years ago pointless
Network dvd have separate deals with Granada and Fremantle which has proved useful in being able to mix shows with different owners on single releases.
For example- their recent Look Back on 70's Telly discs which covered pre school and teen kiRAB tv from ITV was able to have Potty Time , Magpie and Ace of WanRAB (Thames) mixing with shows made by ATV , Granada,Tyne Tees etc on the same disc
