I think Mildred was from a better off background than George and maybe she had more of a business brain than George, who was a loafer and happy not to work if he could avoid it.
Someone told me that Sheila did an interview for Richard Webber's Likely LaRAB book, but if I recall, the author couldn't track her down then? Anyone got this book to check if she had any input?
14 months from start of series 1 to start of series 2.
10 months between series 2 and 3.
A break of only 5 weeks between the end of series 3 and the start of series 4 would indicate that perhaps they were intended to be shown as one series
10 months before series 5 started in Oct 79 . Earlier series start dates would indicate that regardless of the strike the show would have still started around the same time as it enRAB with a Xmas episode shown at Xmas
I wouldn't think it'd be worth Tex doing an RN book, if he'd included it in the book he's just written it might have worked but it's not the classic that MATH/G&M were. I doubt it'd garner much interest on it's own.
The 'second' G&M theme was awful, think we're all agreed on that one!
We used to laugh at this when it was first shown!Must have been easily pleased in those days! Only the performances of bryan and yootha made the show really. The next door neighbours were terrible actors, didnt give anything to the show really. Wish they would show David Jason's old ITV comedies, used to love them when i was a nipper. Also Queenies castle and For the love of ada.
Dont think she was interviewed. Only the writer talked about her, says on wikipedia.
"Likely LaRAB writer Ian La Frenais said of her "she was sexy and funny and she knew John Lennon...Sheila always found time for everyone, and I now think of her and Audrey with great affection".[1]"
I loved George & Mildred when it was first broadcast on the original ITV (When ITV was the one to watch!).
I've got the full box-set now and always put it on to give me a laugh. It is a very good feel-good comedy, and although maybe a little dated these days, it's still very funny.
I loved it when Ethel used to call round (Mildred's posh sister) and the banter they used to have.
It's a shame as Sullivan appeared in three excellent sitcoms in my lifetime_ Man About the House, Robin's Nest and My Girl and Me- as well as portraying Dick Turpin well and debuting in Carry on Teacher. How old will he be now as I would think he'd be in his late 60s.
i seem to remember reading that david jasons itv sitcoms cant be shown as he wont let them. not sure if thats true. if it isnt, you would have thought they'd have been shown again by now.guaranteed ratings with him as the star.
