and the trailer for the film...is here...

I have not seen the movie. I remember hearing about this phenomenon somewhere, and thinking, this must be bull, from the same anti-gay BS factory that concocted "gerbiling".

Until the "cocktails" were discovered in the mid 90's, there was a sort of romantic death cult based on the idea that getting a terminal disease put you on the fast track to spiritual growth (Lousie Hay, et al). Now, there are treatments, which will take all your money and bring a dizzying array of side effects. Nothing tragically poignant about crix belly.

I also loved Piper Perabo in 'Imagine me and you' wit Lena Headey. Two gay foreign films I've seen lately r 'Tipping the Velvet' and 'Fingersmith'. I went crazy over Fingersmith, and if I could I would watch it all the time, it's great!

232 Films To Screen at Outfest

Outfest, the gay and lesbian film festival, will boast 232 shorts and features from 28 countries during its July 7-18 run in Los Angeles, organizers of the festival said Wednesday. Olivier Ducastel's French farce Côte d'Azure is set to open the festival's 23rd edition. "The breadth and diversity of this year's festival is truly outstanding," Outfest executive director Stephen Gutwillig told today's (Thursday) Los Angeles Times. "The festival boasts 101 separate public programs -- five galas, 66 feature film programs, 17 short film programs, seven special events and six panels."

I saw there are some movies that are missing from the lists. And is the lists supposed to only feature us movies?

mukooh ~ wow, that's interesting, would love to get my hands on some of those movies, too bad their not going back latter then the '70's. Do you have a link to the article?

Loved, the title of this thread is actually a line from the movie. :) Glad you got to see it.

Yeah, own a copy. I really liked Jude Law in it.

YelenLovesLogan ~ I think I'd got nuts if gay movies were banned here, I'm in the US, that sucks. Thanks for the share on the movie. If you can, Velvet Goldmine is excellent, lots of eyecandy and glitter and glam...Placebo's in it too.

I recently saw The Wedding Banquet, my friend James had bugged me to see it if I could and I found a copy on VHS cheap. Didn't think to much of it until I watched it, has to be one of the better movies I've seen. The basic story is that the one man doesn't want to come out to his family, but they keep trying to set him up. So when they come to visit he pretends that he's getting married and everything sorta unravels from there. The ending made me tear up.

Does Rope count? It was very subtle, but then again at that time they had to be...

Nope that wasn't it. The movie was called Its My Party' it starred Eric Roberts, Marlee Matlin & Olivia Newton-John. It was filmed back 1996.

I've always wanted to see 'mysterious skin' but I've never gotten the opportunity! I'll have to bump it up on my netflix queue.

I'll add a documentary section to the OP as well :)

more on 'mysterious skin'.....

"Mysterious Skin" is a complex and challenging emotional experience. It's not simplistic. It hates child abuse, but it doesn't stop with hate; it follows the lives of its characters as they grow through the aftermath. The movie clearly believes Neil was born gay; his encounter with the coach didn't "make" him gay but was a powerful influence that aimed his sexuality in a dangerous direction. Brian, on the other hand, was unable to process what happened to him, has internalized great doubts and terrors, and may grow up neither gay nor straight, but forever peering out of those great big glasses at a world he will never quite bring into focus.
