i'd really like to see 'bus 174' too...unfortunately it was never released in a theater where i live and perhaps it never will be...

i saw 'city of god' in a theater last year....imo it's worth the watch....

right now i can think of only one other film and that's 'all about my mother'........i saw that in a theater as well.....and as i remember i liked that too....one things for sure 'habla con ella' is one of my favorite films by any director.....i'm looking forward to almodovar's new film.....'la mala educación' which stars one of my favorite mexican actors...and also one of the hottest.......gael garcia bernal.......it's yet to be released here in the united states.....although i've seen the trailer a number of times in an "art house" theater that i go to...........

Yeap...there's so many movies that people love and that i hate...

You have a very good point there...the whole story was...so dumb!...that whole thing about collecting photos from strangers...god...i really think that's the worst part of the movie, i really do...sorry to all the Amelie lovers out there...;)
 
I meant to say Central/South American movies. Because I haven't seen many South American movies either.

For Mexican/Central American/South American movie all I've seen is Central Station, Behind the Sun, Like Water for Chocolate. That's it.

I'd really like to see Bus 174 and City of God.
 
I just saw the Motorcycle Diaries, which I thought was a really wonderful film. I was quite happy to find out that the director Walter Salles also directed one of my favourite films 'Abril Despedaçado', which is perhaps more widely known as Behind the Sun in English speaking countries.

There are so many foreign language films that I have really enjoyed. I simply can't name them all, but one that does come to mind is 'The Son's Room'. It is an Italian film that was written, directed by and stared Nanni Moretti. It is such a beautiful and poignant portrayal of human suffering and tragedy.
 
Have you seen other movies from Almodovar? Which ones can you advise me to watch?
 
Beatiful country...i went once, like 10 years ago and i loved it.;)

Yeah i know...in Chile is the same thing. In Spain for example...they dub all the movies, no matter what type of movie. I hate that.
 
WOW.....this is (i think) the first time someone really wants to see a chilean movie.....where are you from?....i want to see Promedio Rojo as well....with Benjamin Vicuña everything's good...

I haven't seen La Mala Educacion. It was shown in theaters recently but I didn't see it. :(
Hable con Ella is definitely one of my favourite Almodovar movies. I love it.

I watched Zatoichi and didn't fall madly in love with it. It doesn't mean I hated it. It only means I expected better from Kitano.
I had fallen madly in love with Dolls not that long ago and I didn't find Zatoichi as beautiful as that one.
 
Central american movies, I guess I have only seen mexican movies and not that many: "Amores Perros" and "Y tu mam tambi

Erik is expelled from school for fighting. He ends up at a private boarding school where the senior students control the young ones. Erik finds a friend in Pierre, his room mate. The story revolves around Erik who just wishes to be left alone and graduate. He doesn't listen to what the seniors have to say and they don't like it.

a fantastic film.....simply beautiful......i loved it so much much when i saw it.......it was my favorite film of 2002..............
 
today it's raining hard in southern californa....so what better thing to do indoors on a day like today than to watch a foreign film in a theater....

......i just got back from seeing 'bon voyage'....a cute little film....the time is just before the invasion of france during world 2....featuring spies, heavy water, intrigue and romance.....

has anyone seen ' jeux d'enfants'(love me if you dare)? I saw the trailer once online and it looked really good and it comes out on DVD on the 19th, but I'm hesitant about renting it. I don't speak French and I don't know if I can read subtitles and get into the story at the same time. :sigh:

Is it too difficult to follow that if I'm reading the subtitles, it'll totally distract me?
 
My opinion for this movie is kind of harsh because I had such high expectations and none were met. Instead, they failed horribly so I'm sorry if I sound too mean to the film. Really. :)

First of all I found it boring. I saw "Amelie" in a three days span because I couldn't make myself sit there through the whole thing, so I had to get it in small doses. No kidding.

Then there's the main character. She's so unrealistic. I don't remember if she had any motivation for doing the good things she did but it simply seemed a lazy excuse to base a movie on. Then, they don't even do a good job getting us (well, some of us ;)) interested.

The movie spends such a big deal of time accomplishing nothing that by the time she gets with the guy I'm bored to tears and ready to slap myself out of the trance. The whole "I collect pictures" gag was SO :yawn: and forced!

I hated it. It was annoying and void, just like "Mambo Italiano". They tried too hard.



:lol: It feels better, heh? At first I didn't want to say anything either, but I just disliked it so much that I had to.
