I've just seen 'Habla con ella'. This movie rocked my world! I can't believe how powerful it was!

Audrey Tatou is a very beautiful actress. :)
I'd love to see "Un long dimanche de fiançailles".

Well...i didn't wanna say it...but i hated it too!!!...jajajajaj...dont know really why tho. It is very well done like i said...but i just hated it.

I know I'm kind of late, but I just watched Jeux d'enfants and I must say I loved it so much! Amazing acting with a weird quirky plot *gah* I just loved it.

Yeah, I also got an "Amelie" feeling in the begining, style-wise, but it sort of wore off by the middle of the movie.

I recently watched "Love Me If You Dare"

Have any of you seen this? If you have, what did you think of it?
Part of me thought (atleast for the beginning of the film) that it was an Amelie-ripoff style-wise. The characters were very unlikable, but intriguing. I kind of liked it because you can interpret the ending in a few different ways. It's strange, because I didn't think it was a great film, but there was something about it; it had some strange charm. I don't know, I'll probably end up buying it!

N/m I just read the above comment! It was v. quirky

I loved The Celebration, but I didn't like another movie I saw from the same director (Thomas Vinterberg): It's All About Love.

I didn't know about the new Lone Scherfig movie. Thanks for the news. I loved Italian for Begginers, it was funny and moving.

I went to the official Dogme website and I discovered I watched another Dogme movie: Julien Donkey-Boy, which I truly hated. It was directed by Korine and I thought it was a disturbing movie in an unpleasant way.

A Dogme movie that I wished I had seen is Lovers, directed by Jean-Marc Barr. I want to watch it because Barr is in a lot of Lars von Trier's movies. I'm a big fan of von Trier's.

rockstar - why is that? i'd like to hear a diff POV. my cousin didnt like it too, but then i like quirky movies.

I've been spellbound by Zatoichi by Takeshi Kitano. It's probably my favorite film of the last five years. I found it sad (the story of the brother and sister forced into prostitution), funny (the mad fat samuri wannabe rushing around the house) and beautiful. And the musical moments were superb, I loved the peasants working in the wet field and of course the tap-dancing at the end. :)

Mannech being still cute ;)

I saw this movie a few months ago and loved it. It's cute and quirky, although I must say, the ending threw me a little. It's definantly worth seeing, as are most foriegn films IMO.

Yay, I love foreign films! And sorry, but I'm going to be referring to most of these movies by their English langauge titles, since that's all I know.

p_j_supporter, The Princess and the Warrior is one of my favorite movies. I thought it was a beautiful movie and unlike anything I'd seen before. (And I've never seen Run, Lola, Run).

I also loved The Girl on the Bridge. Didn't think I'd like it because of some negative reviews I'd read, but I thought it was great. In fact, reading this thread kind of makes me want to watch it again. It's been awhile.

mukooh, I agree with you about Daniel Auteuil. I think he's phenomenal. I've seen about 7 or 8 of his movies, I think, and even when the movies aren't so hot he's always great.

As for my favorite foreign films, in no particular order:
Raise the Red Lantern (and pretty much everything else done by Yimou Zhang)
In the Mood for Love
The Princess and the Warrior
Amelie
The Scent of Green Papaya
Krzysztof Kieslowski's Red, White, and Blue trilogy
Abre los ojos (Open Your Eyes)

Obviously, I think out of all the foreign films I watch I tend to favor French and Asian cinema.

Although I haven't seen much Central American or African cinema. It's hard to find them in the states.

Oh, I loved it!

just beautiful. And even with the fact that my video was verrrrry stingy on the subtitles. Luckily it was a story I of course knew so well that I barely needed them in any case. But golly, it was gorgeous

French cinema was so beautiful before the new wave. Ptah. I spit on you, Breathless

Macao, l'enfer du Jeu for one was stunning. The ending also absolutely killed me! I look forward to seeing P

Yup, yup. The Others had a really international cast so I'm not sure how to catalog it, either.

Mavericks Gosh, I hated Amelie so much. I spent three days trying to get into it. I finally watched it and returned to Blockbuster. It was too slowly paced for me.

I recently saw Roberto Benigni's The Tiger and the Snow and loved it.
Maybe it wasn't as funny or as moving as Life is Beautiful. But it was quite original and a bit surprising.
It also has Tom Waits, which is always great. :)

another fan of "dogme".....

... 'festen' (the celebration) was the first film of this genre that i ever saw....i liked it....don't know if others would like it though...it's a rather dark movie....

but as for 'italiensk for begyndere' (italian for beginners)....i really loved that film....it's my favortie "dogme" film....probably because it has a "softer" feel to it....probably i think because it's directed by a woman....lone scherfig....she has a new film opening up this week that i plan on seeing it's called 'wilbur wants to kill himself'....

Un long dimanche de fiançailles rocked my world! Mannech was the cutest thiiing ever, the story was touching and moving. That was fabulous! I'm so proud of french cinema right now

If you want to see a very good movie don't hesitate go see it! It's been such a long time I haven't cried that much in a cinema

But what the heck?..The english movie poster of 'Un long dimanche de fiançailles' sucks. it looks kind of fake

it's been awhile since i've posted to this thread...

i had a ticket for 'the motorcycle diaries' but i missed the show because i didn't feel well...:(......maybe i can still see it now that i'm feeling better.....:)

Anabela......have you seen pedro almodóvar's new film....'la mala educación' (bad education)????....i saw the trailer for it yesterday...it looks very interresting.....'habla con ella' (talk to her) was my favorite film of the year in 2002......

i saw 'arven' (released here under the title 'the inheritance') the other day.....it's from denmark.....i enjoyed it.......it kind of reminded me of a shakespearean drama about a man who's forced to choose between love and duty.......

did anyone see 'ein lied von liebe und tod' (gloomy sunday)??....i saw it about a year ago....it stars some really good looking people....basically it's a love story and a tragedy with a little bit of revenge thrown in.....it's come back to play in orange county......it's kind of developed it's own word of mouth......i've posted an article from los angeles times where this is talked about....(sorry it's kind of big....but it makes it easier to read)....there's not alot of films i go out of my way to recommend, but this is one of them.........
