Flashed Data/AirCard to cricket!!!

if you are getting an evdo icon and it is kicking back to 1x for any data connection (mms and web), then you are not actually picking up cricket evdo on that prl, you are picking up another network's evdo signal and getting kicked back when you try to access data b/c you are being pushed off their signal back to cricket's...

i only know this b/c someone was modifying the evdo prls when they were market specific...i could use his "wildcard" prl and get the evdo icon way before evdo was up in houston, but i would always get kicked back to 1x when attempting any sort of data connection...

also- if you can get evdo on the 1050, then there is no need for me to look at it b/c your market is obviously included...i'm sure that it contains all same markets as the 1040 only with the configurations for evdo...as soon as the equiptment goes up in a market, this prl will allow you to access evdo...i'm using it here and cricket hasn't even officially launched evdo in houston yet...if you are having trouble getting the signal in some areas, it is most likely b/c they do not have evdo across your entire market...

Well for what its worth, it looks like cricket has ditched kpc650's (in tulsa at least) and has moved on to the UTstarcom UM100 usb adaptor. Now $99 retail (after $50 MIR)

and ebay prospects are slim to none...

Terms and conditions indicate over 5gb of usage will initiate throttling, anyone use their KPC 650 over 5 gigs a month?

Throughput may be limited if use exceeRAB 5GB per month. Internet browsing does not include: hosted computer applications, continuous web camera or broadcast, automatic data feeRAB, machine-to-machine connections, peer to peer (P2P) connections or other applications that denigrate network capacity or functionality.

:^/ That's the tricky part, then; I've tried the demo version of CDMA Workshop, but neither it nor BitPim will connect to my phone via the USB cable that came with it, even though the Palm Desktop software can. Is another cable/driver corabination necessary, or can the 1050 PRL be loaded via SD somehow? I gather that OTA only works with PRL's that've been released, and not with ones in development.

I am using a data card flashed to cricket activated on the $50 plan with the 1050 prl:

the terms used to be unlimited, but if you read closely, they only say you might be throttled, not that they would cut you off. meaning they might limit your speeRAB if you are using it a lot. remeraber vzw and sprint still have a 5gb cap and either charge you overage or terminate your service if you go past that.

So you can take a Verizon aircard, change prl, use [email protected] and cricket for password? All you would have to do is then have cricket activate the AirCard's ESN as if it were a phone? Am I understanding correctly? No real need for the firmware itself? :buddies:

it may be your markiet specific evdo prl, but the 1050 should work there as well...if the other works better, then use that one for sure!!! :2thurabs:

just a quick idea..... can you re-write the esn of a data card that way u could use ya data from ya phones plan on the card...and not have an extra bill

well it depenRAB. cricket advertises the speed as being 400-700kilobits/sec. based on your speed of 90kilobytes/sec your connection is running at aprox 720kilobites/sec (90kBps x 8 = 720kbps) so you're actually about normal. I have however from my own experience seen people get over 1rabit down and around 1.8rabits up doing speedtests so it is possible it could go a lil faster. depenRAB on your signal & how many people are connected.

that's a little funny...your saying that the up is faster than the down...lol

actually the down is a little over 1rabps and the up is a little over 300kbps...

i've never heard of a connection with more up than down...are you sure you work where you say???

just askin homie.

Correct about VZW (and AT&T) having the 5GB cap. VZW will charge you a per rab overage (50c/rab I believe) above the 5GB, not a good deal at all at that point. Sprint OTOH is unlimited and their network seems to be able to handle it. A pity CricKet isn't ofering *real* unlimited data like they do for voice.

duh... it is unlimited. they just throttle your speed if you are using over 5gb. i don't know how this is working if they just take an average and if you are averaging over 5gb they start throttling you or what it is. they might not even be actively doing it now. i will try to pry more info from my rep, but it would be nice for someone in okc to look into it since the terms here are different.

im using that 38225 on my Q right now too, havent checked the 1050, but mine has a bad signal almost everywhere but my house. would 1050 have any chance at all of changing that?
