Films where the audience went crazy

Saw!!

The first time I saw it in the cinema was the latest one. It was hilarious looking around the cinema. Everyone was screaming, covering their eyes, crying out in horror, crawling under the seats, running out of the cinema, turning away from the screen.

Usually in horrors everyone stays pretty diginifed and try not to scream. In this people were just wailing from the gruesomeness of it all!!!

New Moon. Missed the first bit as every girl in the room practically screamed when rob pattinson came on the screen. then again when taylor lautner took his top off...

My cinema screenings went crazy when I saw LOTR films like the night they were released but that might be that there was such an immense interest mostly the fans saw them on the first few nights or everyone really enjoyed them, I haven't seen it since though like everyone clapping at the end or beginning and cheering.

A few cheered and clapped at the end of half blood prince, I kind of sat there in shock thinking really :S

Gruesomeness is one thing, but the way the films are filmed - replete with those tiresomely modish 'hyper-fast editing'/jump-cut sequences and similar gimmicks - dissipates any tension/scariness whatsoever. It begs the question what people are actually reacting to, and how easily they can be made to do so.

titanic

never have i seen a more morbid, depressed, teary eyed cinema audience after the film finished

12/13 years on i have still to experience such a surreal cinema experience

I've never experienced anything as dramatic as you lot seem to have, but the only film where an audience has really reacted for me was The Simpsons Movie  The room was absolutely packed, and there was just a great atmosphere in the room. Everyone was in hysterics at even the least funny moments, like literally laughing out loud like lunatics. It was such a weird experience. I dont think before that i'd ever even seen anyone react to a film in any way with noise. :p

And also, when the latter two LOTR films came out, there was a massive atmopshere in the theatre. Everyone was buzzing... It may have helped that I went to the local preview showings both times, but it was great fun :D

Couple that I remember.

First was in Fellowship of the Ring. When Aragorn cut the Uruk Hai leader's head off at the end, some guy just yelped out "YESSSSS" at the top of his voice and then the whole cinema errupted into applause.

Second time was in Attack of the Clones, when - just after Obi-Wan and Anakin have had their arses handed to them by Count Dooku and all seems lost - Yoda walks in. BIG applause. It happened again when he drew his lightsabre.

Both times were opening weekend at the Odeon, Leicester Square, which probably explains it. I have to admit, though, the audience reaction really enhanced the whole experience. It was more like being at the theatre than the cinema.

I can recall two instances where the audience in the cinema cheered. Once was during The Spy Who Loved Me - at the point where the parachute opened. The other I can't recall the name of the film but it concerned a gigantic grizzly bear. When the bear was exploded at the end of the film the audience cheered, but more in a "thank god for that, we can go home now" sort of way.
