Family Guy - "Jerome is the New Black" - Talkback [11/22]

I thought the final Brian/Stewie scene was also really sweet, fart joke aside.

My thoughts exactly. Quagmire didn't call him out for being liberal, he only used "textbook liberalism" as ONE of his insults, implying that Brian chooses liberal standpoints more for his image and a petty bias rather than truly wanting to make a difference. 99% of his rant wasn't even about anything remotely political.

I'd really appreciate people not constantly slipping phrases like "annoyingly liberal" and "stupid liberal views" into their comments on Mcfarlane's shows. Mcfarlane states many of his views in a stupid, one-sided way, but whether they're "right" or "left" should not be the REASON anyone finds them obnoxious. I have to take these comments personally because I share every view he's expressed so far, just for different reasons.

Well it's up on hulu.com

Brian comes home. He looks like he was crying, broken. Stewie is in his room and notices Brian. Stewie asks Brian "What's wrong?" Brian then explains it didn't work out. Stewie says that he should only worry about one person liking him, himself. It cheers Brian up a little and asks if he could sleep in Stewie's room. Stewie gives him permission, turns off the light, and Brian farts with Stewie replying with a "eew" or "gross".

I just love this episode. I've seen it like 10 times.

I think we all got the point of the scene, that it was designed to make Brian feel incredibly bad about his faux pas. You don't have to lecture us.

Though, it's still debatable that the scene didn't make light of abuse, because as we both know, Family Guy doesn't exactly take many things seriously, this scene included. At any rate, I found its execution a pretty unpleasant way to humiliate Brian, hearing a woman getting hurt off-screen and all. But then, I've never been a fan of spousal/family abuse jokes on the show, with a couple exceptions.

You took the words out of my mouth. I mean Jesus, what is with all these comments about "stupid liberal views" in this thread? I undertstand that any right-winger would find left-wing beliefs stupid (much like any left-winger would find right-wing beliefs stupid), but making comments to make it seem like the percieved "stupidity" of a certain political ideoligy is an objective and obvious fact is just plain rude.

And since you mentioned it, i might as well state that i also tend to agree with Brians views, but at the same time find his way of expressing those views to be annoying and sometimes downright dumb and counter-productive (generally, i think Lisa Simpson does a better job at being the resident "writers liberal mouthpiece", but thats for another topic...).

Oh and in regards to the episode in general, i to liked the Brian and Stewie moment in the final scene. I prefer those two characters friendship-dynamic much more than their old rival-dynamic.

Why is it that only the mods dislike this episode? What's up with that?

Exactly. The point Quagmire was making was that Brian was some dog on the street when Peter rescued him, so it is messed up of him to hit on Lois.

People love to badmouth season 4, probably cause of HUGE expectations, but I still think it was the best season since the renewal. I'd say this season, so far, is on par with season 5.
