Family Guy - "Jerome is the New Black" - Talkback [11/22]

Personally, I do agree with Quagmire on his speech about Brian, but to me the funniest part was the Catcher in the Rye reference, I agree that the kid in the book was a spoiled brat. As for Jerome, he did seem like an interesting character as well, I do hope that he does appear next time. This season is getting better and better with every episode.

I'd argue that Lois' derailment has been less detrimental for the show simply because she's less important than Peter, Brian and Stewie and gets less screen time anyway.

I wouldn't even blame the revival for Brain's newfound liberal obnoxiousness, since he was just fine for about three seasons into the revival. At least, he didn't derail whole episodes until recently.

I thought so too, but Lois makes or breaks the family sitcom plot she was the understanding mom that kept it all together and without that they're just an absurd family.

Nobody even mentioned Meg.

While there were plenty of FG episodes that fell flat IMO since it's renewal, this has got to be the best season yet. I mean, it just started with a huge bang and was consistently funny everytime I tuned in. If the show is going to continue down this path, then I will honestly have no complaints. Just..bravo.

I just didn't find to be a problem since everybody and their mom knows he's a lecherous sex maniac and didn't (until now at least) sit on a high horse judging everybody. But I see your point.:)

Yeah but I think it can be applied to Lois also. He's even said that he went through her garbage to Cleveland and Joe(even though that was in a "what-if?" episode).

I'd agree about Lois, but it becomes way too distracting to have slowly seen her become a slutty mom. The earlier seasons always alluded to the idea that she was "loose" back in her youth (KISS and 'Loose Lois') but it had become pretty well known that she had sewed up her wild youth and settled down to be a mother. Since the revival though, it seems they are trying too hard to make her some sort of sex pot. The episode where she cheated on Peter with Clinton digressed her character a lot even though Peter slept with Clinton in the end for a throwaway joke, the damage had been done to her character.

I've heard the argument from people saying "Peter treats her horribly or acts horribly so it's okay" but if you remember in the original seasons, Peter never would have hurt Lois in any intentional way, neither of them would ever have committed adultery either. Lois also has become very cruel to her children in recent seasons, earlier on in the series run she usually was the sole defendent of Meg, now she mocks her with the rest of them.

I guess that's the direction they wanted to take her character, and you know what that's totally fine but for any viewer, there's an incredible shift in tone between about season 4 through the present for her character that can't go without notice.

And you know... I just realized that one part of Quagmire's rant WASN'T exactly true; about Brian just dating bimbos...

Anyone remember Brian the Bachelor? Anyone remember Peter's got Woods? I don't think the women he was dating or trying to get with in those episodes could be qualified as bimbos.

...

Sorry, I'm just a big Brian fan and to me... Quagmire came off as the real ******* in this. No offense to any Quagmire fans out there, this is just my own personal opinion.

My sentiments exactly. I think i've said this before but Lois is becoming a me too character she wants to be along the ranks of Peter, Stewie, (I guess Brian) in a stand out personality, but there was nothing wrong with house wife with a loose past that could be touched upon.

Exactly! I always felt like her loose past was enough of an interesting personality trait that differed her from other "straight women" on sitcoms. It often feels lately that the writers are trying really hard to make her as wacky and crazy as the male characters, and it comes off really forced and degrading for her character.

I'm I the only one who felt that Quagmire's bash was just a little to harsh. I did find it funny for someone to finally call Brian on his faults, but Quagmire came on way too strong. If it was anyone from the family who said this to Brian, I probably would have accepted it. But since it came from Quagmire it doesn't feel right. I think this is do to their little to none interaction. This was basically the first time they were together this long. I really feel that Brian should have retaliated back at him. Or at least something should happen to Quagmire that equals his bashing.

Don't forget, he admitted this in Patriot Games, "Hey Peter, I was going through your garbage when I noticed your high school reunion is coming up..." and said it was because Lois was clipping her toenails.

(I just watched this episode a couple days ago)

If I remember correctly Seth said that this season will see a change in Brian's character since "Bush is out of office and Brian has nothing to [female dog] about." or something similar.

While I can (sorta) get behind complaints that Brain and Stewie's characters aren;t what they used to be, I think Lois is a heck of a lot more interesting now than back in the earlier seasons, when all she would do was react to Peter in the same way Marge Simpson would. I like that they fleshed out her character more and gave her a bit more of an edge. I don't see the problem with that.

You know what the problem is? People can't deal with change. Considering almost all the other characters on this show are social and sexual deviants in some way or another I just think it's bizarre that so many people have this problem with the fact that Lois has evolved that way. Lois sleeping with Bill Clinton (and facing serious regret afterward) is unforgiveable? On this show? Compared to so many of the horrible things all the other characters do on a daily basis? No. In this season alone Peter threatens to leave her for a cardboard cutout and fires a rifle at her because she's Jewish. But the fact that Lois ends up in bed with a womanizer like Bill Clinton ruins her character completely?

Again, I'm not seeing it.

It would be one thing if Quagmire just walked up to him and just started bashing him, but Brian just kept pushing his buttons. Even Stewie warned him about it.

How about Brian making empty pleasantries when he clearly wanted nothing to do with him? The only reason Brian was even trying to reach out to him in the first place is because of his ego. Here's a guy he's been completely indifferent about this whole time, but as soon as he says he's annoying, all of a sudden he wants to become best friends?

and disguising his self as an old, lost girlfriend was a great idea. I know I would brimming with joy if I came to meet an old flame, only to find out a person that I hate there tricked me because his ego was deflated.

So yeah, I think he clearly walked right into that one.

Am I the only one that got a huge kick of the English Gentleman's club joke? It wasn't funny at first, but by the end it was so completely absurd I couldn't help but go into giggle fits.
