Last week I had an Expressvu dish and a 9200 PVR installed. I am running it in 'single mode' connected to a Sony KDL46V2500 TV. I have the supplied HDMI-DVI cable with the DVI-HDMI adapter installed, plus an optical digital audio cable between the PVR and a Yamaha receiver.
Anyway, right from day one we have had problems with the sound dropping out. Just short, one sentence gaps in the sound. Sometimes we'd notice it a lot, othertimes we'd watch a whole movie and never hear it.
I dug through the threads and FAQs here, and although I didn't find anyone else reporting exactly the same problem, I came to suspect the HDMI connection. So today, I pulled the cable and swapped it end for end. No change. Then I hooked up the component cables that came with the PVR (plus a right and left sound cables) to the TV. Problem goes away when we watch over component.
So when the signal comes over HDMI, we get intermittent sound drop outs. When the signal comes over the component, no drop outs. Armed with this info, I call Bell support, reboot the machine a couple of times, and then get put on hold until my call gets dropped. I call back and learn that this "is a known problem with the 9200 and HDMI" and they "are working on a software fix". And they have no target date for the fix. This second CSR seemed to know of the problem right away, as soon as I described it to him.
The good news is the picture quality on component looks comparable (to me) to the picture quality on HDMI. The bad news is that the sound quality through the TV is much poorer (quieter and flatter), particularly on the SD channels.
Anyway, I'm posting this mostly to help others who might run into this in the future. And if anyone thinks I missed something or if there's something else I should try, please feel free to chime in!
