Well just went to FS and they exchanged it for me. And he had no problem with it being already activated.

Audio dropouts are a lot less on recorded OTA on my 9242. The superbowl recording was almost perfect except i missed the last 25 seconds. Should have set it to record longer.
My dropouts happen just a frequently on the optical out as the HDMI.
They tell me replceing the reciever won't help.

Hi,
Nimiq1-
I should note that while I have had no audio drops or the other problems some have stated, there is a slight delay in channel changing. I timed it, and going from the menu to another channel is a 2-3 second delay, and the same for if you even press recall - about 2-3 seconds to switch (HD or SD doesn't matter...). I never had a 9200, so can't compare...

I'll be calling them this week for sure. I'm currently on a 12 month HD promo from them and I've only had this unit for a couple of weeks now. If this is the level of quality that Bell is offering, I sure won't be continuing my service after the 12 months.

I received a 9242 yesterday and it runs very hot and is much louder than I expected. Almost the same noise level as the Vista Media center it is replacing...

Ya, I know, I just hoped with the 4 wires I had to run from the dish that more could be acomplished. I guess thats where cable has us beat. Although I would need 20km of cable here to get hooked up HEHE:)
I saw the HDMI thread, but have not been able to get sound to work with my cheap insigna 37" HD flat screen. So I have been going component.

Are you using Dish Pro plus or standard outdoor equipment? If DPP that's the issue as it has not been certified or tested for Canada, and therefore not fully supported.

There has to be a logical reason for the slow down..... The one I have access to several times a week has same delay on SD or HD.

I will enquire with a few Techs and see what they report back.

Have you tried analog audio as a comparison?
On OTA I notice the audio only drops when I momentarily lose the signal itself (which is expected). I need to mount my antenna on the roof when the weather warms up.

snowgoose200, power it off for a while, then try again. Yes, you should get a picture without the Sat. feeds connected.

I'm happy to report that after a few months of having the unit, it has worked perfect for me. Granted, i have a very basic setup, just one to connected and nice short 1.5 m run of hdmi from the 9242 to my sony tv. I'm super duper happy thus far.

After having the video troubles with the 9242 HDMI out to my Pioneer VSX 92-THX, I tried to isolate the problem. I ran the HDMI from the 9242 straight to the Kuro tv. Problem remained. I then called BEV to order a replacement. The tech actually suggested the problem was not the unit (hardware) but a software problem with the HDMI outputs that Bell was "working on". I questioned this as: 1) some 9242 users w/HDMI connections don't have a problem at all; and 2) no Bell tech had previously volunteered this as a potential problem. The tech suggested I use the comp. outs for the time being (lovely wire hanging from the otherwise nicely framed Kuro) until the software upgrade would "automatically" be downloaded on my system "at some point in the future". I've tried the comp outs from the 9242 - same problem. I've now resigned myself to re-hooking up the old 6100 with the comp hook up and will be calling Bell for yet another replacement 9242 tomorrow. This is utterly bogus. I will keep re-ordering replacements until I get one that works (and have told the mother corporation I will not pay them a red cent until this is rectified).

I don't like the HD guide list, it just shows all the wasted bandwidth on channels nobody watches. :)
I never even thought of moving recordings from one to the other.....

I don't understand what you mean. There are no cable boxes available that can record more than two shows simultaneously. What are you comparing to?

Now here's an interesting observation: I'm watching an HDNet concert right now and the audio is dropping out for a second or so every couple of minutes. If I push "skip back" on the remote and re-watch the part where the audio originally dropped out, it plays again just fine without any dropouts. So to me, this indicates that the problem is isolated to something with the 9242 and not the actual channel, even though it might be happening on specific channels.

Hi All,

I have a Viewsonic 37" LCD TV and the one code in the Bell book doesn't work. Anyone have any tips on what other codes I can use? I'm not sure if someone else makes Viewsonic's LCD TV's. Or is there the mother of all TV codes and remotes site out there?

HDMI Cables - I read in a magazine last month that it doesn't matter about the price/quality of the cable, since the cable transmits in digital only. So its either going to work or not, their recommendation is to buy the cheapest one you can find (shielding, etc doesn't play a role in the quality when the signal is digital). From my understanding, an HDMI cable cannot have "intermittent" problems, its either going to work all the time, or not at all. So if it drops out, the problem is with either the receiver or the TV, so if the sound is fine on that HDMI port when your playing your XBox, then you know its the receiver for sure. fyi - I'm using the cheap cable that came with the receiver and it works fine, no sound problems at all.
