All Rental equipment used to come with a horrible sticker too.

Now in a way that one made sense but after seeing so many 2700's at Yard Sales with partial stickers, I soon realised that it made no difference to someone who would sell the thing anyway......

I'm on my third 9242. Same audio drop out problems. Very frustrating. I've given up on the HDMI connection and so far, no problems....

Another potential use for the ethernet port is large scale backup.
WesternDigital makes a 1TB backup drive that connects either with USB2, FireWire800 or Ethernet.
So who knows?

I think you are talking about an install using DishPro Plus equipment. This works well on the 2 9200' that I own but I recall reading that the 9242 might not support this hardware.
This should give you an idea on how it hooks up.

It has two satellite tuners, so you can record two events simultaneously, or watch one and record another.

As Tom said, you just need to hit the "format" or "*" button on remote 2 to correct the aspect ratio and eliminate the pillar-box bars on the SD stations.

Just hooked up my new 9242, I am a new subscriber to vu. I had a huge battle with the bell CSR but that's another story.

I am using the HDMI cable into an INSIGNIA 37" HDTV. I get no sound, but have been using my receiver for now.

After letting the unit sit overnight, when I turn the tv on it has a black screen and it is very difficult to get picture on the tv again.

Is this normal? This is not just on the hdmi output.

Add me to the list of 9242 owners. I just uninstalled one of my two 9200s (jump to live bug, broken frame-by-frame trick play features on PVR) and replaced it with a new 9242. I have it connected via component cables to a circa-2004 JVC 61" LCOS RPTV and Toslink optical connector to a Denon A/V receiver.

My motivation for replacing my 9200 with the 9242 is to get the trick-play PVR functions to work again. Like when I hit the "frame back" button, it doesn't jump back one and half minutes like both of my 9200s do (keep in mind, these bugs only affect the units with the Maxtor hard drive).

I did a test recording (HD Golf on ch. 817), and so far, it works fine. I rewound about two minutes behind live, and after 30 minutes it did not jump to live.

$499 + tax to get it working like it should have in the first place.

Nimiq, you sell dishpro stuff i suspect?

I don't have any Dishpro, bigger dish solved low signal levels and don't have many audio sync problems

Been a while without Bev. What button do I press on the remote to toggle through the various channel menu's? (i.e./ All CHAN, ALL SUB and the user created Ones)

I have not, as yet heard any issues when in use, the "jump to live" etc do not happen but some are very noisy, some are failing after a few weeks with Smart-card errors, which is impressive weeing as how they do not have a Smart Card....lol

Overall, it is a better machine than the 9200 but only time will tell how it works out. I will be asking for a 9242 to replace my 9200 very soon, I am prepared to take a chance on it.

Is the audio drop-out issue only via HDMI? I'm planning to get a 9242 to replace a 6100 soon but these issues worry me,

Just replaced my 9200 with a 9242, everything is hooked up and updated, seems fine so far. I like the default 'All HD' favorite list, saves me from maintaining one myself.

Anyone else replace a 9200 and have any luck moving PVR recordings from the old unit to the unit?

I've had my first set of a recording issue, twice so far and both on the HD channels the program recorded say's it has recorded the full program with the full amount of minutes remaining counting down as it progresses. But around the half way mark it cut's to the PVR menu with 0 minutes remaining, the rest of the program isn't there.

Kind of sucks, both times they were early recordings so I was able to schedule the later show.

If you never tell them it is activated, then they might exchange it, otherwise they should refuse.

Nothing to loose by trying.

The HD Preference option in VuPass is not working for me, am I alone with this problem?

Background: I've had the 9200 for a couple of years and then recently acquired the 9242. So I have pretty good experience using VuPass and the PVR. I was pleasantly surprised to see the new option in VuPass to 'Set Resolution' in the 9242 that the 9200 didn't have.

Example: I currently have a VuPass timer 'Skiing' and it is set for 'HD Preference' and 'New Episodes'. In the 'Daily Schedule' for Saturday Feb 2, at 11am (Mountain time) it lists about 20 instances of the Womens world cup Downhill from St. Moritz Switzerland. These match all the different chanels of CBC. I have the tuner in single mode. Two of those 20 instances are flagged to record, the rest, including the CBCHE 802 instance, are all flagged as skipped by priority, so the 'HD Preference' is not working. I have to manually go to each of the others and force it to skip, in order to get the 802 channel.

How does this HD Preference actually work, is it based on known HD channel numbers (e.g. 800 series channels) or is it looking for guide data (e.g. looking for HD in the title or description?)

I'm guessing that this HD Preference option is looking for the text 'HD' in the title in the guide, and not the well known HD channel numbers. If this is true, and given the extremely poor data quality and reliability of the text in the guide, this option will rarely work. Have a look around the forum for all the other threads complaining about the lack of quality in the guide data.
