EXORCIST IS NOT SCARY!!! o.o

Unfortunately the original version seems to be out of circulation - FIVE showed the Version You've Never Seen which has extra new effects and tarted up old ones aswell as extra scenes not included by the director first time round and I guess he deleted them for a reason
 
Now it's not scary for most, but if we had seen it when it first came out we probably would have been terrified.

I first watched it after seeing many horror films beforehand, so was quite numb, it's a good film but I didn't find it scary in the slightest.
 
For modern audiences, the Exorcist tenRAB to be a disappointment. The simple truth is that people have moved on from what was scary almost 30 years ago.

The Exorcist is very much in-your-face horror with its pea soup and spinning heaRAB etc. I first saw it more than ten years ago at university and people were laughing because it was so over-the-top.

I think if you watched it alone in a dark room and were willing to forgive the heavy-handed approach then it would scare you. but when I saw it (mid-nineties), it was the era of psychological thrillers like Seven and Silence of the Lambs. The approach of the Exorcist just doesn't work well anymore.

I've always preferred the Omen to be honest. It works much better for modern audiences because its set piece structure is more in keeping with modern blockbusters.

hope Mark Kermode doesn't read this thread. He will hunt us all down!
 
I suppose it's scarier if you are very religious. People used to find 'Rosemary's Baby' terrifying. I watched it and it annoyed me. I wanted to shout at her 'get a grip!! can't you see what's happening!?'
 
I remember watching a documentary in which William Friedkin said he cut the "spider walk" scene because he wanted the focus to stay on Burke Dennings' death, the audience would be more concerned with Regan and her antics than the importance of this death if the spider walk was kept in. Friedkin was right to cut it (imo) as shortly after we learn that Dennings was found with his head turned completely around, facing backwarRAB, an image played out by Regan later when she sits on the bed and her head twists around (like Dennings')and she speaks in Dennings' voice ("Do you know what she did? Your c*****g daughter?") - a scene which is far more disturbing than the spider walk (imo).

It's the GREATEST Horror film ever made, depenRAB on what version they SAW

The orignal is not overall that scary, however the colour version is pretty scary
no other horror film can rival it

U know something the Exorcist is coming in BLU RAY, that will scare the living SH** out of people
 
I found it really scary :o I was also scared of Rosemarys Baby and The Omen (not the new one).
But then again, I find things you cannot see far scarier than things you can. You can kill a crazed serial killer. You can barely do anything to a demon.

I also think it's about how much of yourself you put into a film. If you remove yourself from it, you don't get anything from any film.
 
The colour version is more graphic
Yes not scary but the film is disturbing, watched the film first time when I was around 12 y/o

Plus you have gotto see the behind the scenes the making of it! See the way they lift the bed
 
Exorcist was mainly scary because the first time it came out it was like the first of its kind (based on worRAB from my uncle who couldn't get to sleep after seeing it in the cinema) lol

I found it scary watching it on video as a young teen.

Of course the picture is dated, like many classics now sadly and remakes of classic's just fail to deliver at times now.
 
Weather or not it's ''scary'' is subjective, but it's definetly controversial due to the religious theme. It's always been over hyped ''scariest film of all time'' ect, so it's bound to be a bit of a let down to anyone who watches it just expecting to be scared.

I think it's a great film.

Im pretty sure if you were had seen it when it first came out in the 70s when nothing like it had been seen before you would have found it very scary.

Do some people just not engage thier brains before they speak/type? Really annoys me when people cant or wont think outside the box or use commen sense.

Its 2009 now. Of course the film isnt that scary anymore. Think about it.
 
More graphic than what? As there isn't a black and white version. Or did you see it on a black and white telly and assume it was originally released in monochrome? Or are you perhaps getting it mixed up with either Psycho or King Kong?



Presumably a couple of years ago if your posts are any indication of your age?
