Damn, I still haven't got the time to watch this yet. I have to find time to check it out this coming week...

This will probably be written weird because I have as much focus as a ferret on meth.
I loved Clem. She is, as of this day, my favorite, rainbow-haired eccentric character. Her behavior was so refreshing. Leaving out all of the drinking, I think that she'd be a great person to hang with/date/etc.
I relate to Joel. That poor guy. It seemed like he really wanted to say something to Clem when he tried to give her the necklace but... Well, she always seemed to take the lead before so...
Ahhh... Plain and simple: I loved this movie. It made me laugh and cry. I love it.

Ah - so this is the merged version?

I don't know about the chick flick thing - she actually called it a "Date Movie" and kept thanking me (facetiously) for our date (dinner and a movie) - but my friends are sassy that way. Plus, she's a journalist and tends to go with the more hardcore type of indie films, by nature.

But that had nothing to do with how I felt about the film. I really DO need to go buy this...

One my fave movies of all time! I fell in love with Kate Winslets acting this filml.

I just realized that we already had an Eternal Sunshine thread. Since this one is moving I won't close it, but I have to merge it with the old one. I hope nobody gets too confused. :)

If so, PM me. :)

Is it just some or does no one ever talk about how good Jim Carrey was in this movie? And this movie isn't your typical Jim Carrey movie. I would label it as a psychological dramedy. It makes you think.

I think Elijah Wood was meant to be an annoying little twit. You definitely weren't supposed to root for him.

Mark Ruffalo is good in everything he does. Such a natural talent, he makes it look effortless.

I thought Kirsten Dunst was okay, she got better as the movie went on.

I saw this movie last Saturday and I loved it. I can't say the same for some old couple who walked right out the theatre about 45 minutes into the movie. I was never really a big Jim Carrey fan, he usually just annoyed me. This movie made me like him. Kate Winslet was great and I loved all of her hair colors. I thought Elijah Wood was alright, but I mostly like Kirsten Dunst and Mark Ruffalo.

I wish I hadn't seen the movie with the person I saw it with, although I do adore her - she's pretty high brow and thought the movie was more of a "chick flick," as I've posted before.

However, I was really looking forward to it and sort of stuffed my response. Now that time has passed I can allow myself to have really gotten so much out of this film.

The main message is extremely intense, especially for me as a multiple trauma survivor. Would I want to erase my trauma memories - which might mean getting rid of the good memories?

No.

Is it just a matter of destiny to go through certain experiences, and what doesn't kill you makes you stronger?

Possibly.

Plus, Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey were phenomenal in this movie, as were the rest of the cast. Everyone did such an incredible job - and I liked the way it was pieced together, too. Felt clever rather than gimicky.

I saw this movie yesterday, and I just LOVED it! Jim Carrey & Kate Winslet as Joel & Clementine ["Oh, my darlin'..."

] were absolute perfection. I liked that he was the "introvert" and she was the "extrovert", it was a refreshing change. And, overall, it was a beautifully real depiction of a relationship - albeit, in a surreal/dreamlike state

.

One of my favorite scenes is when Clem tells Joel to take her to his humiliation, in order to hide her from the "eraser guys". They go to his memory of being a little boy, in a red cape, and being teased by these little punks. Clem appears in a cowgirl outfit, like in her picture, and takes Joel by the hand. I thought it was touching how she was sort of taking care of him, by telling him they weren't worth it and pulling him away. And I adored how she tried to take his mind off of them with her, "Do you like my hat?", and playing who could "smother" each other the longest ...

P.S. Am I the only one who cannot stand Elijah Wood?? Other than him, I thought the supporting characters were quite good - especially Mark Ruffalo's.

Oh, lucky you!

I went to buy this DVD two times and neither time they had 2 disc SE, which I know is not that big of an improvement over the single disc.......... But I'm odd and if I know there's a 2 disc ed out there, I just can't settle. Of course now I don't have money for either. Heh.

Not that anybody cared. :D

That was my favorite part too. Really well acted by Jim Carrey - so much underlying emotion there. I felt like he held back for a lot of the film (purposely so, I'd imagine, as the character himself was very self-contained) but he was just terrific in that scene.

Someone mentioned this film again today....and it makes me wanna see it again. I have the DVD! :woot:

Oh, I know! These two are a brilliant romantic pairing that I never would have considered. But, wow, they are just beautiful together in this movie.

saw it yesterday...loved it..

.......i especially loved the part at the end when clementine said something like "will probably hate each other" and joel says something like "so what" or was it "who cares"....maybe with the knowledge of their prior memories of each other they'll be able make it now as a couple....so glad they got back together at the end....

Eternal Sunshine is in no way a chick flick! Come on!

Anyway, I loved this movie. Absolutely loved it. I didn't understand it the first time I watched it, but I thought the cinematography was beautiful and totally complemented the mood of the film (melancholic, wistful - thus all the blues and stuff). I've never seen Jim Carrey act better - his Joel was just the right mix of goofy and sad schmuck but something about him draws you to him; and Kate Winslet was his match as the fiery and impulsive Clementine. The supporting cast of Mark Ruffalo, Elijah Wood and Kirsten Dunst made for a very interesting sub-plot, and their roles were well-developed, too. And I haven't mentioned the obvious - that this is an incredibly original plot by the one and only Charlie Kaufman, with excellent directing by Michel Gondry. This is a very good explanation of the chronology of the events in Eternal Sunshine. Be warned: there are spoilers (obviously).

Plus, the soundtrack. I love Beck's Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometimes, and whenever I watch the movie, I fall in love with the song all over again. It's actually not that great a song on its own because it's just two verses repeating many times, but it just goes so well with the film that the song (together with the last scene of the film - I'm not including the fact that the song was played in the beginning credits, because that was too short to make an impact) becomes extraordinary. And I like The Polyphonic Spree's Light And Day (although I don't remember when it was played).

I watched it once in the cinemas and many times thereafter on HBO, and what I've realised is that, even after watching it so many times, everytime I turn on the TV and see it showing, I have to watch it anyway, I can't tear myself away even though I already know it so well. That, I think, pretty much sums up how I feel towards this amazing, amazing film.
