E61 & different keypads confusion...

i got this so called funny keypad, and i dont have any beef with it... i was never a treo nor a BB user, but after 3 days i was at ease with the e61 qwerty...

Ok, being a pest, I realize, but I still haven't gotten an answer... I have the keyboard pictured below (asian; chinese, maybe?). Didn't even realize it til I got it home from the store because it has all of the actual english characters I need. Other than updating the firmware with the corresponding version (which i assume wouldnt be that hard since it is still one of a batch of them?), Why would there be any problem that I have this keyboard version/layout rather than the UK or other English? Why would this be a problem, if I have all the keys I need, am I missing something? Is it just the aesthetics?
Thanks for any insight...

I ordered one from myworldphone.com. They sent me this one. When you hit the "." key it doesn't write a . Now I have to wait 2 weeks for them to figure it out. That is crap. The website has the English one but no they send me this one, how am I supposed to use this?

I just can't believe that they would send me that phone. Especially when it types it goes from right to left instead of left to right, lol. Once I changed the language to English it would type with the English letters, but the . key still didn't make a . it made that symbol instead. In order to make a . at the end of a sentence you have to press No way in hell am I going to do that every time I want to write a sentence. I think it was from the middle east or something.

I called the people at myworldphone and I talked to some supervisor and they were like you have to send us the phone first let us look at it then we can send you a new one with an English keypad in 7-14 days, I was like you screwed up, you send me a new one now I paid overnight shipping. They kept saying it is the policy and there is no way around it even though it was their mistake. The guy was like this is a company, this isn't just 2 people in a back room, we have over 40 employees. OOO 40, wow such a big company. I was like so what, you messed up, not me. The guy was like we will refund your overnight shipping, I was like great so you send me a new one overnight then. He says no. I say I will overnight you this one, you look at it and send me a new one overnight the day after you receive it, then I will have it by the end of the week at least. He says no, the phone has to go to inspection at a different location and they have 1000s of phones in queue so it will take a week at least for them to look at it then they can send me a new one. Wonder why they have 1000s in queue, maybe because they send non-English phones to English speaking customers. So I finally just said screw it and return it. I still have to wait 7-14 days to get my money back which is crap, but whatever. If they don't refund my money completely I can file a claim with my bank and they will get the money back, I already asked my bank about that, lol. So at least I am protected that way but it is still bogus to send that phone to me and for them not to take care of the customer and fix the problem in a faster fashion instead of a week at the minimum. I will never buy a phone from them again. Especially when they don't send what is pictured on their website. It does not say anywhere that you might get a non-English keypad on your phone.

I wouldn't change the firmware to a different language version unless you also change the keys. Some of your shifted and blue keys will be in different locations.

Hey swips,

I'm selling mine. Same keyboard as "Layout #5 (Asian)" on page 4 of this thread. 1 week old. 0 talk time. almost 0 data time. Simply tested it: i.e. email (IMAP), Wifi, Office, sync, Web Browsing works great. Current firmware. I want a UK, Euro or preferably US layout instead. Am going to post on craigslist and ebay this week.

pm me if interested.

Does anyone have this keyboard, on an E61 with no carrier branding? If so, please get me the product code off the back of the phone. It is a seven digit number, that starts with 0. THANKS!

@gregh,

you are using the wrong button for the "."... It took me a while to figure it out... the period is just to the left of the "enter" key... the one next to the space bar with what looks like a blue ., isnt really a period... no idea what it is...

anyways, I wouldnt send back the unit just cause of the keyboard... i have no complaints about mine (and I dont even speak arabic), xcept I wanted a way of writing accents (for brazilian portuguese)... If there is a way, Imight get a english keyboard, just so its less cluttered, but the arab markings really dont bother me at all anymore... took me all of 2 - 3 days to get used to them...

I have the same kb as below:

Has anyone figured out which Euro firmware matches those keys. I know it is an asian kb but was wondering if there is a Euro flash that would works with it (don't care about the Chinese characters...just the regular english ones).

I used Euro_A but the ? key is not mapped correctly.

lol, I didn't even see that key as a . key, lol. I just saw the one next to the space bar. It makes a . if you hit the blue arrow first. oh well. That arabic keyboard was so full of stuff it was hard to tell what was what, too much extra crap on it, lol.

edit:

I wanted the simple english keypad anyway so no big deal. Wow am I just out of it, lol. I am surprised that nobody mentioned that earier, lol.
