E61 & different keypads confusion...

This was one of the first E61's I bought from ctimiami. Unfortunately as of yesterday he has no more and only has the nokia-asia grey box version (which I have in my hands now).

I actually regret selling this unit and I'm looking for another one. I'll be putting the asian-variant up for sale shortly.

If you are looking for that exact layout, the white box was marked with a "Nokia Poland" label on the side, and the manuals were all in Polish.

I got mine from a guy on E-bay, with this same design. I chose him because he would do local pick-up and was in the area. I had no idea at the time of different keyboards, so I guess I got lucky. Mine came in a white box, with the side label reading " NOKIA E61-1 " , and "Made in Finland" (not sure if they all are) , it also has a polish manual. The seller was located in "Encino". I have the phone number if anyone is interested, I saw a lot more.

Sorry, quote from another forum:

> Called up nokia and was informed that need to reflash the symbian os with
> chinese version (free) but must change the keyboard (usd17).

I'm ordering my e61 from phonesource-usa and was wondering if anyone else who has bought from him have had any problems with ordering? Also, the keypad layout he is shipping the phone has the "Car" key instead of "Char" and the weird "N" symbol. Although its still a QWERTY keyboard, has anyone else with this keypad layout been annoyed with it and/or regret not getting one of the different keypad layouts? I'm going to be submitting my payment soon so if anyone can respond back with their experiences, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks!

i want to buy one, but want to send it to the US cause i am going there in a few days so i don't have to pay tax if I were to ship it to canada. is it possible to ship to and bill to different addresses using pay pal? i haven't used pay pal before.

thanks for your help.

cmon, people the keyboard of the e61, be it 3 different kinds for english is not really a deal breaker... just go ahead and buy and use it, in a weeks time you will get use to it, there are just a couple of characters that makes the differnece in the keyboard and in actual use that wont make such a big difference, and as mentioned above it can be flashed with your language of choice and replace the keyboard subsequently... just go for it!

I just grasped that the keypad is the "car" key on my phone from phonesource-usa

I don't want the tilde-N key and the funny-C key, I'd much rather have a question mark and parenthesis. I'm a little pissed off.

Just got mine from X1387, the box is white and said made in Finland. The picture on the box shows the keypad with the "CHR" key but when I opened the box, the actual key is "Car."

i have the retail box e61-1 and it came with keyboard layout #3. I'm happy with it. only problem i have is dialing alpha numberic phone numbers and pressign pound and star... what is pound and star btw? i need it for my telebanking

I have both layouts. The models are nokia 61-1 item # 0042632 this is the euro version, and model e61-1 silver item # 0032458 this seems to the English version with the $ sign and @ button. I have not tried the euro version as yet but plan to. The cingular service I have in the states works perfectly and I am very happy. I plan to purchase many of these for my employees so that we can use Microsoft exchange server. The English one comes in a grey box and says made by NOKIA. The other comes in a white box and says made in FINLAND

Yeah, I would rather not have this keypad, but I'm getting a good price on the phone so I am not sure if it is worth holding out for one of the other keypads.

I didn't even really realize I had the two funky keys on the bottom row on my E61 from phonesource-usa. I have had mine a week and haven't had a problem entering text at all. I would rather have a longer spacebar instead of these two keys, but I was very happy with the price and have no complaints.

If there is a symbol/punctuation you want that you can't see on the keyboard you simply press Car once to bring up a pop-up selector. Your most recently used symbols also appear in the top row to make entering them even faster and this has been acceptable to me for $ signs.

Thanks for the reply Palmsolo! That makes me feel more at ease. I wasn't sure if these weird keys would be that much of an issue to hunt down one of the other keypads.
