found this(i hope its not true:( BTW DG is over 100million in just the US alone now):

3. Here's another spoiler: Oscar telecast producer Laura Ziskin and Dreamgirls director Bill Condon have planned that each of the Dreamgirls -- Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, and Anika Noni Rose -- will sing each others' songs from the movie. That's a cool concept: nothing's more boring than having the person you expect do the singing. Or maybe Beyoncé wants a crack at singing Jennifer's songs. Who knows... (But I can knock down right now one rumor flying around which I'll mention just because it's so assinine: that Michael Jackson will sing one of the songs from Dreamgirls. Thankfully, not even the Academy is that blind to the PR disaster of an MJ appearance on the Academy Awards. It's not happening.) Diana Ross, on whose life the Motown musical is loosely based, was asked to sing one of the Dreamgirls songs on the Oscars. But she said no, telling the producers, "I'm not interested in promoting that movie." She still claims she hasn't seen it.

 I'm glad you're going to give it a chance. :)

Calla - I agree about Jennifer!!

I think with Eddie it's mainly because it's something different for him. Nevertheless he was really great.

tao - Surprised your so down on this movie. We usually seem to agree on most movies. But, I guess there has to be something we disagree on. I know you loved Babel. I thought it was dreadful and can't believe it's up for best picture.

I thought the acting was top notch in Dreamgirls all around with the exception of Beyonce who has a ways to go. But, even so I thought she was decent.

I love the storyline of Dreamgirls and the characters and the music, costumes, etc. were fantastic!

Congrats to Eddie and Jennifer on their noms.

lol the power of jennifer hudson converts another person!

i love J-hud so much

and eddie's singing surprised me too lol, especially on "I want you, baby"

ETA: dvd on may 1st!
Paramount Home Entertainment Presents the Critically-Acclaimed Smash Hit and Winner of Two Academy Awards(R): DREAMGIRLS Two-Disc Showstopper Edition: Financial News - Yahoo! Finance
^ i so want the 2 disc version!!!, it has the cut out scene of Jennifer doin "sing my song". i love that performance on the broadway soundtrack so i was disappointed when that scene was made into a spoken dialogue scene in the movie. I can't wait to watch this scene now!

Everyone go on Youtube and search for a clip of Jennifer Holiday's Broadway version of And I Am Telling You.

Jennifer Hudson's performance of that song is sooooooo much better. So much more emotional. And she didn't have to have convulsions trying to get the big notes out.

Holiday had her mouth open too wide. You know how some singers can barely open their mouths and get out powerful notes like Celine Dion.

Hudson all the way!!!!!!!

i was on Box-office mojo again and dreamgirls is already the 4th most successful musical movie.
1 Grease Par. $188,389,888 862
2 Chicago Mira. $170,687,518
3 The Rocky Horror Picture Show Fox $112,892,319 -
4 Dreamgirls P/DW $77,415,704

and it recently got released in some countries internationally, not a lot, i think only 2 so far, so it should cross the 100million mark soon, especially after the Oscars

ETA:

the Oscar noms:
-Eddie Murphy nominated for Best Supporting Actor
-Jennifer Hudson nominated for Best Supporting Actress
-John Myhre & Nancy Haigh nominated for Best Art Direction
-Sharen Davis nominated for Best Costume Design
-"Listen", "Love You I Do", & "Patience" nominated for Best Original Song
-Michael Minkler, Bob Beemer, & Willie D. Burton nominated for Best Sound

Saw this movie tonight and it was amazing! The songs were terrific! And Jennifer Hudson blew everyone else out of the water. I didn't think Eddie Murphy or Beyonce were all that special. Definitely good but not award-winning performances. I think Jennifer deserves the Golden Globe nod and that Jamie Fox got jipped. He was totally in it more than Eddie Murphy anyway.

 You two are so cute!

The funny thing is after I posted that I went to therapy, and even my therapist insisted I see it (listing the same reasons as my friend - and he's not only NOT a Beyonce fan, he didn't know she is...which is surprising because he's fairly young and hip).

Anyway, bottom line is that if all these people still like the film, despite feeling the same way I did going in, I have to give it a chance. :)

I made this great post on what I thought of the film, and when I posted FF went down and it disappeared! So.freakin'.annoying.

Anyway, what I didn't like about it was exactly what I didn't like about the stage play I saw oh so many years ago (with Jennifer Holiday in the role). The music and staging were flat, but the film really fleshed it out better.

BUT - Jennifer Hudson currently rules my world, I want to put her in my pocket and take her out to play whenever I want to hear her sing, and she rocked the crap['i] out of that role! Woot! My love for her right now knows no bounds. *lol*

And did Eddie Murphy go to voice lessons, because he wasn't that bad (as opposed to the 80s when he had that gosh-awful pop song). Everyone else were fine, but I don't care for Barry Gordy (despite his contributions to furthering the cause of African-Americans, and our drive for equality), and I despise Diana Ross, so the story will always bug me.

But again - Jennifer Hudson! Eee! :D

Yeah everyone does stay during the credits.

I want her to win the GG but not the Oscar. It WILL ruin her career to win the most prestigious award sooooooo early. This is her FIRST movie.

All the attention will jumpstart her career.

And Oscar win will kill her career.

Beyonce won't win anything for her acting but she WILL win the GG and Oscar for Listen. She wrote the best song of the year.:sigh: It was so powerful to be so original.

Anika did do a great job crying over Jimmy's death.

I like CC and Michelle, there were cute together

I'll start with

*Favorite musical performances*
And I Am Telling You Now - Obviously this is the showstopper and though I had heard it on the soundtrack, etc. I was still blown away by just how powerful it was. Obviously she has a tremendous voice, but it's also all the emotion conveyed while she's singing it that just rips your heart out. :thud:

I Am Changing - I thought this performance was also one of the most powerful in the movie. Hearing Effie sing again after everything she went through and her swallowing her pride, etc. Teriffic!!

Listen - This was Beyonce/Deena's shining moment. She tore it up!!! I've heard her perform this song while she was making the rounds, but it is even 100 times better in the movie.

Dreamgirls Finale - I thought the farewell performance was so cool............especially after Deena said that there weren't just 3 Dreams, there were 4 and introduces Effie and they all sing together that last time.

Not sure the name of the performance, but the performance where Eddie/Jimmy drops his pants. I absolutely loved that performance and hearing Jimmy put the soul back in his music!!

One Night Only - I just love this track. Effie/Jennifer performed it incredibly. And as mad as it made me when Curtis stole the song, I have to say I loved the disco version too!!

Those are a few of the performances that are standing out at the top of my head at the moment.
