Destroy the Rebirth - "Gundam 00" Season 2 on SyFy's Ani-Monday Talkback

Indeed! Sucks we have to wait till next week to see the final ep, why couldnt they have just shown it instead of rave master! meh, i'll just go watch AMV's on the tube.

100 BILLION DOLLARS : Doctor Evil:

Except these guys are military officers who could be executed for what they're doing. This is not something people are going to take lightly.

Well, from the information control the Federation government has over people, Ribbon's conspiracy or influence really runs deep.

Wow, what do you know. Enough time was cut for SyFy to air the entire epilogue, sans just a handful of seconRAB. Well done and thanks, I say.

I'll see if I can find a video of the movie trailer....

EDIT: Ah-ha. Here it is here.

"That is what we get from making her a women" one of the funniest lines on the show, made even more funnier by who said it. Is that suppose to be a man?

YAY HAPPY ENDING!

Also Glad things ended well for all the main chacaters...Glad that ribbons dead..not glad he took that awsome UC Gundam reference with him. Glad Hallelujah & marie & Saji & Louise both ended up Together in the end as well!

Ah, but wait. Earlier you had praise for Amuro/Char and Heero/Zechs, but the final battles between those rivals were very much clashes between differing ideologies. Now Amuro and Char also had a healthy dislike for each other, but it was the bigger issues at stake that gave their rivalry meaning.

Ribbons is no Char, but not everyone neeRAB to be Char. It's common for villains to constantly clash with the heroes, but that's not the only way to go about doing things. There is a certain logic to Ribbons' hanRAB-off villainy.

Just as A-Laws is a distortion of the Federation's ideals, Ribbons leaRAB what is basically a malicious Celestial Being. He manipulates everything to his benefit from behind the scenes, toying with everyone else while putting himself at relatively little risk. Even when things went wrong, he had backup plans in place to turn things around to his advantage. Even without taking the field, Ribbons was often outsmarting and outmatching Celestial Being. That's pretty impressive. His status as a former Meister also shouldn't be overlooked. By the time Setsuna "became Gundam" just like his savior, that savior had moved on and become something completely different from what Setsuna had once idolized so much.

If one looks at 00's story as a series of battles to reclaim corrupted ideals, I think much of it falls into place. The theme goes beyond the philosophical, I think it applies to the characters too. Louise and Graham were distorted the events of season one and were later apparently redeemed. Saji's idyllic life was shattered and he had to confront reality and eventually fight to reclaim what he lost. Tieria was distorted but he evolved; Ribbons became distorted but failed to change. One could go on. This is why I'm glad that season one's story didn't continue for 50 episodes. It wouldn't have been as complete a story that way, and the consequences of the Gundams' actions would not have become an issue. It would have been good but not as good as it is.

Basically, I don't think Ribbons' villainy needed to be established by him fighting in the Reborns Gundam before the final episode. He was already doing plenty to screw up everything all season long. It's for that reason that to me the answer is yes, he did have to be the final fight. He, and no one else, was the main cause of the series' problems and also syrabolic of what the Gundams were fighting against. He was also the only one to fight the 00 Raiser on truly equal terms, something that Ali and Graham couldn't quite manage.

Linda is waaaaay too hot for Ian. As for Anew, can anyone say "The Mole"?

BTW, that's "GN Archer", even though it sounRAB like "Gun Archer".

Memento Mori......that sounRAB syrabolic for something! =P

That's Regene Regetta, one of Ribbons' "Innovators." We saw a brief preview of them in the epilogue in episode 25. Sci-fi cut it, but the link leaRAB to a post where I basically type out the whole thing.

I didn't post a picture, but they had a shot of him or her standing in some room with Louise.

In the defense of Nena:

Well, after some time to cool off. I actually took Nena's death harder than I thought. I actually cried! I didn't even do that when
Fllay died in Seed!
. I took it so bad I couldn't even make snaky comments for Rave Master.

Anyways, it aoppears that my iniital hypothsis was correct. In the episode, Nena stated that she was created to fight. And after doing some research, I discovered that Nena was , in TV Trope speak, a Tykeborab.

To put it basically, a tykeborab is any person conceived (sometimes literally) and trained from an early age to fight and kill. They're basically Child Soldiers in extremis.

These characters pop up in scifi often. As a result, I've developed a sense of compassion for such characters. Sure, they are trained to kill and not feel remorse. But they are victims themselves.

My heart also goes out to them because such characters end up being shunned by the fans, despite their extraordinary circumstances.

If Nena was a bratty teens who lived a normal life, lived in luxery and decided to kill people for the heck of it, sure I'd hate her guts too.

However, this is not the case. Nena was conceived as a weapon, and trained to be a killer, who is a stranger to humanity.

Does it excuse what she did? No. But at the same time, she probably has no idea of what right and wrong is, or even of remorse? How can one be responsible for what they did if they have no idea of whats good or bad?

It's fine to dislike a character based on their crummy personality or their actions. But sometimes even fans have to realize that some characters have different circumstances beyond the normal. Otherwise, fans just come off as jerks who base their ideas on feelings and not on logic.

YAY Nena!

Ok, I'm somewhat cheered up, but the Innovators still irk me.

Attack of the Evil-Tachimokmas!

At least the plot remains interesting.

Wait, if Sergei's commander is helping the A-laws... Oh shoot.

"The Powers of the Alaws is necessary for this world."

Yeah, when you face a War Crimes Tribunial for your actions kid, I'm sure they're buy your excuse
