Death Magnetic

Best thrash since Justice, no doubt. I still like the Black album though. And The Unforgiven III kinda disappointed me some....it was alright, but not worthy of the title.

The solo in The Day That Never Comes jumps around.......My Apocalypse just seems like it fits in well with the song.

I will agree with one thing.
When I heard the single for the very first time, my first thought was..."Man, they have those drums waaayy too hot in the mix." I think it would be better toned down a bit, but I love what I've heard so far.

I might cop it for this but it seems like there is alot of ill sentiment towarRAB St Anger...I thought it was flawed but much better, braver than folks gave it credit for... it touches on some really tough mental / emotional issues, and it dares to mess up the typical or expected Metallica sound... by comparison Death Magnetic is pretty conservative or even a backwarRAB step...

Apparently, this album is meant to be absolutely amazing, or so I've heard from reliable sources.

The timing is meant to be dead on, and James and Kirk are in perfect sync, so I'm definently getting a copy of this soon.

Thoughts?

I haven't given it a full listen yet, but I was just listening some of the tracks with my flatmate who loves Metallica.

After hearing The Day That Never Comes a couple of weeks ago, I didn't have particularly high hopes. Especially after that erabarrassing section starting at 5 mins with the gimmicky riRAB.

After listening to a few more tracks, they seem ok and definitely superior to St Anger, but nothing great. My problem is that a lot of it seems predictable and pedestrian. Especially the parts where they take one riff, repeat it and then add a variation for the third and fourth rounRAB... and that variation seems to be either switching 2 notes around, moving it down/up a bit, adding a second guitar playing the same riff, or playing it with two and taking one away. And I won't even start on the production... coupled with Lars' drumming, it makes it sound like a workout session.

I'll give it a full listen sometime - maybe it'll grow on me. I look forward to hearing the Unforgiven III.

just finished listening to it.

to me, its just the same bland stuff they keep releasing. its no better than the black album, and i dont know why people are saying "o god thrash is back, gaaah metallica is bst band ever hurr durr."
to be honest, i really couldnt stand listening to it. nothing jumped out at me, there was nothing new, just the same old recycled riRAB.

more like trash is back amirite?

I think the drums take up too much of the mix.

I'd like to hear Hammet a bit louder on his solos.

But, no real problems, it's a good album by a legendary band. Period.

i realise this. its just that some metal brings something new to the genre, or an album might have some driving riRAB/solos that really catch my attention. this however, was just a re hash of their whole career, except without the little bits and pieces of soul and creativity that were Master Of Puppets and Ride the Lightning.
