Of course 'Barely Listenable' is not pathetic. Whether I personally agree or not, opinions are valid for everyone. I am in my mid 30's and have seen Metallica many times too but if a release is shit, I will say it is.

Using the criteria of a banRAB longevity is a weak argument. My favourite band is Pink Floyd but 'The Wall' sucks for me and I have no compunction saying otherwise. If people don't like 'Death Magnetic' then so be it. Trying to change an already made up mind is usually a fruitless excersise.

Alright, here's 10 good reasons for you:
  1. That Was Just Your Life
  2. The End Of The Line
  3. Broken, Beat and Scarred
  4. The Day That Never Comes
  5. All Nightmare Long
  6. Cyanide
  7. The Unforgiven III
  8. The Judas Kiss
  9. Suicide and Redemption
  10. My Apocalypse
:D

(Although admittedly, some of the tracks are just meh to me, like Cyanide and The Judas Kiss. They just didn't stand out very much to me compared to the rest of the album.)

album was much better than st anger. as far as it goes against the others, the first four albums (no order) followed by black, then death magnetic.

unforgiven III lacked for me really, then again so did II. but all nightmare long owns.

3.5/5

Dull and, dare a say it? Duller.

DM was a horrible album, terrible production (which is a shame, since rubin has impressed me in the past.) rehashed crap that neither impresses or is any way different than past crap spewed out by 'tallica in the past 10 years.
i have to agree with pitchfork on this one, DM is basically St Anger with better riRAB.

10 minute trash instrumentals can not be pulled off successfully.

I heard their two singles on the radio and thats it. I like some of the riRAB. Though it all sounRAB like typical metallica nothing really made me go wow that's unique for thrash! I hear good things about it from frienRAB. I was never a big fan of their stuff. Back in high school I learned master of puppets and i really digged that song cause it was heavy, catchy, and fun to play.

Listening to this latest batch I am struck by the notion that despite the odd foray into speed, Metallica are a frustrated NWOBHM band and now and again they reach those aspirations.

Well, no offence intended to anyone, but being a complete metallica outsider, I actually quite enjoyed Death Magnetic... I do think at times that the vocals seem kinda forced, as if hetfeild is trying to sound angry but he really can only go 9 tenths of the way, becuase the fire in the gut isn't quite all there...

But I love the way the music generally twists and turns and the drumming sounRAB full, aggressive and mind bending, the guitar work is ace, too.

No, but the comparison is also lost. I specified "this album" meaning so far from what I've heard off of Death Magnetic I find My Apocalypse to be the worst. None of it has really impressed me yet, but The Day That Never Comes at least has a halfway decent solo. The reason none of it has really impressed me is because the drums are always either underwhelming or too much, and it takes away a lot of the feel from the riRAB. Also, My Apocalypse is poorly put together, the riRAB seem to jump around sloppily as opposed to flowing into one another. Its a train wreck of decent ideas.

As far as St.Anger, I'd consider it Metallica's worst release to date.
