DCI Banks Monday 27 September at 9pm

Yes. The first part was shown last Monday at 9pm. It was repeated on Sunday night after the news, prior to the second part being shown. (The second part is repeated next Sunday night.)

That's because she isn't:rolleyes:

Its certainly set up for a series with her going to join Banks.

I wonder if they will do more. Bearing in mind how they ended Lucy's story last night can't see how they will do Friend of the Devil.

I really wanted them to make a series of the books and I don't like what they've done - mainly with Banks. I suppose be careful of what you wish for applies here. Best stop hoping they make the Susan Hill Simon Serrailer books

i have read most of his books and found them brilliant, but this was dire.stephen t in it didnt help but that could be because i cant stand the guy in anything.i know they say if you read the book you wont enjoy the film, but i really tried to get into it in the end gave up the stuggle and fell asleep.

Have had to switch it off. One minute he was slapping her across the face and the next she's in hospital and they're telling her they've found 4 bodies in her cellar.

Can't be doing with it!

I'm undecided about ST - as other posters said, Banks should be small and dark/wiry - think ST was better than i thought he would be but still not right for the role. I read the book ages ago so can't remember all the detail but they started with this book because of the story line - thought it would be the best one to dramatise.
One of things I love about the books is the way you get a feel of the seasons changing as Banks looks out of office window - you get none of that with this drama. ST in an interview said Banks is a detective who thinks a lot - hence his isolated cottage - unless they develop that in part 2 there certainly wasn't a sense of that either. but guess you can only do so much in 2 one hour dramas.
you don't have to read the books in order - I started with The Summer that Never Was - which i loved - and then went to the first one and read them all. If I'd read the first one first i might not have carried on but worth the effort as Bank's personal life unfolRAB woven into the story lines.
Caedmons Song is an excellent (stand alone) book and i highly recommend that.
oh - and I didn't buy the woman that played Annie Cabot at all!

I thought it should have been Dervla Kirwan. :D
And surely there is a key role for James Nesbitt. ;)

Anyway, casting by numbers aside, I thought this was Ok and am looking forward to part 2 next week. It works as a one off but I'm not sure it's strong enough for a series.

Next week I'm going to record it and start watching at 9.15 so I can fast forward through the adverts. I know they pay for the shows but they also make watching them difficult.

Sorry to disappoint you but I'd be very surprised if this didn't go to full series. It's won its slot twice now, last night increasing its audience (albeit only marginally) ... though I am baffled as to why.

I thought it was as bad as the first episode: everything heavily telegraphed with characters conveniently volunteering information just at the right time, and Tompkinson OVERACTING his way through every scene. Why on earth would he have been promoted in any case when his boss has such a downer on him, anyway?

It doesn't surprise me that Cabot isn't a bitch in the books - again, it's been changed for 'drama' that is so forced it's not true.

Thoroughly depressing that ITV sees fit to dumb down everything it commissions and even more depressing that this was watched by more people than the excellent Spooks. I guess there's no accounting for taste ...

I enjoyed Aftermath even though Stephen Tompkinson doesn't fit what I think Banks should look like, he did a good job even though the accent waivered a bit. Andrea Lowe was good as Annie Cabbot but I imagine they're setting up the character to be Banks' sidekick should there be further episodes beyond the pilot.

If there is a series, wonder what books they'll adapt, Piece of My Heart would be a good one IMO.
