DCI Banks Monday 27 September at 9pm

Agree about Neil Pearson possibly being more suited to the role than ST.

I think ST and James Nesbitt are good examples of actors cast in series because of their name and past work. It's not imaginative casting. I'm willing to give ST a chance but James Nesbitt! Monroe is doomed from the start.

I didn't think it was as bad as some critics have said. However, I have to agree, the casting of Steven Tomkinson was a big mistake. I watched him in that balooning in Australia series, that could have been interesting, but he somehow managed to make it appear deadly dull, he just seems to suck the life out of any script.

I would recommend anyone who enjoyed it last night to read all the books. I am reading his latest, Bad Boy and it is as good now as every single other book. All of them great novels.

I'm looking forward to watching It on Monday. I've read the books and in an open mind about S T having the lead role. Pleased to hear Sky are doing Tom Thorne as I like those books as well

I love the Banks stories, but I cant abide ST. he's one of these actors that get wheeled out because it seems obligatory to keep him in a job. In the early books I thought of Banks as someone like Sean Pertwee and later as he got older Ken Stott.

I've V+d it as I'm still undecided as to whether I''ll give it a go so grateful for teh opinions.

I would have switched off if they had had Caroline Quentin as one of the coppers, Sarah Lancashire as his wife and Amanda Holden as his daughter

Why do ITV hamstring their dramas by casting lightweight actors in the lead roles, Wire in the Blood with Robson Green and now this.

I've never read the books and didn't think the story was bad - but all ruined by the appalling Tompkinson 'acting' and 'emoting' his way through it all.

He's supposed to be a profesisonal detective - so why would he start losing it with his colleagues or medical staff? Just not real.

I'm shocked to see this beat Spooks last night - although only just. It's well made but looks like it's come straight off a conveyor belt ...

I wish they had started at the beginning as the books tell of his relocation from London, his marriage, children, marriage breakdown etc.........If it is sucessful will they just pick out books at random and alter them to fit in with his personal circumstances as shown in "Aftermath" I wonder.
There is an article in this weeks Radio Times and it is not very flattering to STs performance.
