DCI Banks Monday 27 September at 9pm

Speaking of Ann Cleves, Vera is to air next year as a series of four films with Brenda Blethyn as Vera Stanhope. The trailer I've seen looked quite promising.

Would like to see the Cooper and Fry novels adapted for television though it's hard to fantasy cast Ben Cooper and Diane Fry although I think Maxine Peake would be a good choice for Fry.

I believe ITV1 own the rights to produce a Roy Grace TV series. I've never read the books so I'm not sure who they could cast.
 
Lucy is a bank clerk and has a very strange background which is why she has hooked up with Terry/Marcus - they see something in each other. She was adopted - I dont want to say too much in case the show doesnt say anything and I am not sure if this drama will tackle it.

Where is it filmed by the way, is it Sheffield?
 
I thought the story was good, by why oh why use Stephen (wooden) Tompkinson ? I cant stand him.

But - i will still tune in as im interested in how it will end, and it passed as otherwise boring Monday evening.

Aftermath
Caedmon's Song (though this does not feature Banks)
Friend of the Devil (when you read this it ties up the other two)

then start at Gallows View and work your way through them all.
 
When the first Harry Potter film came out JK Rowling said pretty much the same, the reason things are changed is more often than not because what flows and works well in print doesn't work so well visually.



I agree. Banks' relationships with his family, colleagues, and superiors is a running theme throughout the books and effectively starting in the middle limits how you can portray the history of those relationships and why people interact the way they do.

I haven't watched the first episode yet, although I have recorded it so I can't comment on the programme but, as others have said ST wouldn't fit with my mental image of Banks. But then having read all the Colin Dexter Morse books, John Thaw doesn't fit my mental image of Morse either!

Again referring to relationships, to me Morse & Lewis had a much warmer, closer, relationship in the books than they ever did on screen and Morse's boss wasn't the "buffoon-type" often portrayed in the series either.
 
It was a good enough hour of television, more suited to a Sunday night though, however Steven Tomkinson is just so wooden and one dimensional.
 
I thought the same. For some reason it's portayed as anally retentive but it seems like common sense to organise things so you can find them to me.
 
Shaving of body hair is most usually spouted in these sorts of programmes as being a red flag to do with narcissistic sadism or a desire to return to a childlike state or seriously inhibiting OCD or some other sinister thing that means something verybadindeeeeeeeeeeeeed about the person.

I have no idea how true that is, but it seems to me that I've seen it as a motif in a lot of these crime drama programmes
 
To say that much of the old YTV setup in LeeRAB has been closed there still seems to be quite a bit of filming in the area, there's DCI Banks and the new James Nesbitt drama, Monroe.

A bit off-topic but also good to see that the upcoming Inspector George Gentlys have been properly located in North East England.
 
I was extremely disappointed with this.
I love the books, and was really looking forward to seeing how it fared being put to tv.

I have to admit that I completely lost interest about 20 mins in last night, and turned over.
