DCI Banks Monday 27 September at 9pm

I first saw him in Drop The Dead Donkey. I liked him in that
After that he was in that drastic muck Ballykissangel. I don't rate him much, but I've not read any of the books, so at least I've not got an idea what the character should be like.

Started off alright. Thought it might be a 'get to the missing lass before she gets killed' thriller but turned out another mundane police thingy.
Steven Tomkinson cant act for toffee either. Disappointed again...

oh ok was getting my ex`s mixed up !

Think I might give the books a go..:D

I've just noticed DCI Banks is starting on 27th September. Its the dramatisation of Peter Robinson's novel Aftermath and stars Stephen Tompkinson.

I'm hoping they do more DCI Banks stories after this one. I like ST as an actor, and I'm looking forward to seeing him in a different kind of role.

I haven't seen a trailer yet, but I'm told they have started. :)

Anyone else looking forward to it?

The books are good but not sure if Stephen Tompkinson is right for Banks. A recommision is likely if the ratings are good and there are plenty of books to choose from plus any original stories they may want to come up with.

Maybe it's because I have already read the books, but I didn't think much of this. Maybe I am being picky but from the books I thought that

Banks - In the books described as being short for a policeman
Winsome - Now just called Win is the tv series, supposed to be a tall jamaican woman,
The police station - supposed to be set in a small yorkshire market town, it seemed to big to me in the program
Also maybe I am wrong but I don't remember Marcus & Maggie having an affair in the book

like I said maybe I was being to picky

it helps, but I read Caedmons Song first which is not a Banks but it informs a later one called Friend of the Devil (which has something to do with a character in what you are watching now).

Then I read Piece of My Heart which at that time was the latest, went back to the beginning and have now read em all. Aftermath is about 19 of 23 or something.

It's been quite a while since I read Caedmon's Song, but I can't for the life of me remember how it links in to Aftermath. Could you remind me?

Well, it was OK . . . but not the Inspector Banks I imagined or recognised from the books

I thought Annie Cabot was good, but I get a bit fed up of Tomkinson's angst - and him accostingLucy at the end . . . well, I could just see that going down a storm in court!

Not sure about this. I've not read any of the books so I've no ideas about how it should be done. I thought the beginning was effectively shocking and upsetting, and I will watch next week to see what's going on. But I found the relationship between the two main police people, and everything really about the woman policewoman investigating the complaint, just unbelievable somehow. Not bad acting, just something felt 'off' about the story. If this was a one-off story I don't know that I'd watch any more, but I might change my mind when I see the solution.

Minor point: I also think that the main policeman's boss being overtly hostile to him for no obvious reason is a real cliche - I'd love to see a police drama that didn't do this.

He is NOTHING like Alan Banks. Not sure who I would choose though.

I have read all of the books. Aftermath is the most shocking of the lot but is about book 13 out of 19 or something. Alan Banks is 35 years old in 1989 when the series (books) first starts, Aftermath (the book) is set in about 2000.

They needed to go with a gripping one as a pilot and then they will choose others at random I think, if this works. One is about spies and goes off at a bit of a tangent and is a bit crazy.

Lets see how it goes, but I cannot visualise ST as Alan Banks!
