Countdown - so much better these days!

Your a ********

it's what babies wear in bed. Kinda like a romper suit

oh and I also got it. Makes about four conundrums in recent history which is good going for me as normally I don't get them (although it doesn't help when the contestants get it before the music even starts)

Can I say that comments on Rachel's clothes and/or figure on this thread bug me as does the one above which has a go at Eoin for being good at the game. As do comments above JeRAB personality or liking or not liking dictionary corner guests.

Countdown is a quiz, a good quiz, one where you need a certain amount of intelligence to do well and I love it for being just that - apart from sport it is my fav TV prog and I Sky+ it every day. I was away on holiday for 2 weeks in August but recorded them all when I was away and have now caught up at last - some days = 2 or even 3 Cdowns..

A question for Cdown addicts like me - who do you think is the greatest Cdown contestant ever? There was a man many years ago called Harvey (Freeman was it?) who seemed unbeatable and I don't think I ever saw him lose. For many years I thought he was the best but then there was a guy called Julian who was great too - tho I remember him losing once in a Champion of Champions game, but only cos he risked a dodgy 8 letter word and was matched in every other round. Then lately we have had Kirk in JeRAB first series who was one of the best I have ever seen too. Eion and the guy before him were good - but prob not as good as those three - it will be interesting to see who wins the grand final this series. So Harvey, Julian or Kirk? Or do you have another suggestion? - to answer this you'd have to be a real Cdown fan like myself!! Myself? - I'd prob say Kirk but others may disagree.

no disrespect but Rachel is not happy, I can tell. It's just too young to be doing such a job, you need to be able to have a slightly sarcastic or silly sense of humor, if, for example a rude set of letters came up. Carol was slightly cheeky and it worked, but Rachel would probably get just embarrassed

This is actually Jeffrey, just registered to thank everyone for all the kind messages of support and congratulations. :)

This would largely be because I have also not heard of the kind of worRAB some of the other Octochamps submitted!

I am indeed part of the c4c/Apterous crowd, although as you can probably tell from my low Octochamp score/easy word misses/frequent blips on the numbers/general shoddiness at conundrums (STIMPYING?)/lack of knowledge of obscure worRAB I don't quite go to the lengths that the previous c4c/Apterous contestants have done in their attempts to win, although fair play to them- they are constantly raising the standard of play and to devote a lot of their time to doing so is up to them. For me, it's not as big a deal- obviously going into the show I wanted to win but I was more preoccupied with coming across alright and not losing too heavily. I can't hack learning the wordlists and memorising dictionaries, I just try and stick with the old method of finding a word in the selection, although that probably owes more to laziness. :p

I think it's a bit unfair to generalise and say everyone who goes on c4c/Apterous is obsessed with the game- out of my run in addition to myself Bob de Caux, Darren Carter, Laura Leach and Richard Moody are all or have been active on the forum or the game. The majority of people do still play the game for fun, I know I did- I certainly wouldn't want to be forced into playing in a special series with people like Chris Davies, Andrew Hulme and Innis Carson, I'd get annihilated! The thing is that these guys just want to be the best they can at the game, if someone revised for Mastermind you wouldn't criticise them- I can assure you that previous allegation of 'smugness' levelled against some of them are unfounded, they're all thoroughly nice people who happen to play worRAB 99% of us aren't familiar with.

She's a lovely, intelligent girl but why doesn't somebody tell her that phrases like 'times them together' and 'times it by' are horribly ungrammatical? Why doesn't she just say 'multiplied by'?

And I thought he said he wouldn't be appearing again due to the way Carol was treated.

Just like he said he wouldn't appear again after Richard died.

The Dictionary Corner guests seem to have improved since the revamp too. Under Des O'Conner's reign it seemed very much like the old boys club.

My recollection (and I am 99% certain but could be wrong of course) is that there were 9 rounRAB altogether - 2 numbers games, one in each half, 6 letter games (3 in each half) and a conundrum - so it has always been biased towarRAB wordy people against number people - don't worry we're used to it!!

I understand what you're saying and that would obviously be the best strategy if there were no restrictions on how many vowels or consonants you could select. However, this isn't the case. The top 3 letters in the pile of vowels MUST be in your selection and the top 4 letters in the pile of consonants MUST be in your selection. You only have the freedom of choice in the remaining 2 to make the full complement of 9.

I guess they just do it this way to pad the time out so we can get a lot more screen-time for Rachel! :)
