Countdown - so much better these days!

Sometimes I think there should be a separate Countdown series for young, dictionary-swallowing blokes. This could run for, say, two months every year; let them beat each other every day with their fancy eights and nines every round.

Then, for the remaining ten months of the year, the programme could revert to having "normal" contestants (basically anyone who doesn't hang out on the Countdown forum that was linked to a few posts ago), who just play the game for fun and don't spontaneously combust if they fail to spot an "obvious" nine! It would make the show a lot more enjoyable for the casual viewer I think (at least for ten months of the year).
 
As I said earlier, I assume it's so that it's clear for the contestants who are writing the letters down, and not necessarily looking at them while they're being put up. S could be misheard as F if it wasn't said clearly.

Felt sorry for the lady today, Anita. I think she could have gone on to win a few games if she hadn't come against such a strong champion.
 
It's possible that Eoin is unusually good at anagramming, but that's not what his success on Countdown is based on. He's spent many hundreRAB of hours programming his brain and can recognise the possibilities from groups of letters almost instantly.

He may also occasionally suffer from nerves and tiredness, like anyone else.

Eoin has followed a well-worn route which is available to everyone but which has been most exploited by young, obsessive males of school or student age. The association with autism is probably valid in some cases but almost all of these youngsters manage to come across reasonably well on television. What they're achieving is quite stupendous, but it's a tough one for the programme to manage.
 
That's funny, the guy sitting next to me was also the next contestant. And the ex-champion sat next to me for the next game, although he didn't have his teapot with him.

I got the impression that Dr Phil wasn't particularly taken with Kirk either, when he (i.e. the Doc) appeared in Dictionary Corner earlier in the series, during Kirk's record-breaking run. Maybe that was just wishful thinking on my part, though, and he secretly loves him - I dunno!
 
Yeah me too though I also can see why people voted for the number one (Cheryl Cole)

Saying that I'd have voted for Keeley Hazell (number 5) if I'd have remembered (or been safe to vote without Vonie slapping me)
