"Coraline" Talkback (Spoilers)

I didn't think the character of Wybie was all that necessary either, but unfortunately there's a mentality shared by many in this country that female protagonist = "girl project", and many young males fancy themselves too macho to willingly watch anything starring a girl. My guess is that Wybie was a studio-imposed character thrown in so boys would watch.

I find Coraline's design to be rather appealing, myself. She didn't look like Shirley Temple or a Disney princess, mind you, but she wasn't supposed to. She looks cute in a spunky semi-tomboyish kind of way. Just my opinion, though.
 
Um, yes there is...it's the shot of the mice coming out of the wall, only before they digitally erased the wire armatures they used to support them in mid-air.
 
Hmm, well maybe it's because I watched "scary movies" at a young age without being scared. I can see a kid [or some adults I guess] being creeped out by the whole look and feel of the movie, that could make them anticipate things-- which would cause them to get startled more easily at the scary parts.
 
I just saw the movie and it was quite fantastic. I don't think the theatre I went to was doing the 3D thing as it didn't have the glasses. If they did, then I missed out on it. Then again, I am not big on these kind of things so I enjoyed the movie all the same.

Unfortunately, I missed out on any post-credit scenarios so I'll have to wait for either a DVD viewing or a cable showing to see it.
 
Saw it in 3-D tonight at a 9:20 showing. There were a surprisingly number of kids at a late movie, and I wonder how many of them were scared by it... I know I was massively creeped out. But I also loved it. I loved that it was creepy in the story, not gore. The friend I went with and I turned to each other several times because we were freaked out. When the cat tore out the Other Mother's eyes, we both jumped. And the Other Father getting sucked into the garden... wow. Oh, and the first appearance of the ghosts... yeah, there were plenty of moments that were creepy.

I also really enjoyed the subtle use of the 3-D. It added to the texture of the world more than anything else, which was really nice and not overpowering. The visuals were stunning, too. The night sky and the garden in the alternate world... it took my breath away.

Overall, absolutely loved it but definitely would not take a kid to it. 9.5/10
 
Just because most horror movies now use generic gore instead of doing any eerie psychological tricks on the mind doesn't mean that all horror is actually like that.

The main point of a horror movie is to make the audience feel scared and horrified. Hence the title "horror".
 
they should have the dolls there too. i saw them at the one at the mall here in PA-a shame i'm broke or i would've picked up a couple.;)

That's not a horror movie... a horror movie is what the title says. It is meant to scare the audience or at least give them the feeling of being frightened. What you described is a slasher and even then they aren't all frightening. Since blood and guts are on your list of horror how about every anime on the market?
