"Coraline" Talkback (Spoilers)

Early Friday estimates are saying that this movie opened in 3rd place with $4.2 million. He's Just Not That Into You and Taken are in 1st and 2nd.
 
In regards to the movie being too scary for kids, the movie is rated PG so parents should be somewhat cautious taking little Jimmy and Johnny to see it. Giving it a rating any higher than that would be ridiculous.

Of course, there are always going to be neglectful parents that will expose their kids to things they shouldn't be seeing. And then they'll blame the makers of the movie for its content. It's sad, really.
 
I just saw it a few hours ago. Overall, it's definitely one of the best animated films I have seen in a while. The animation was beautiful, the story was dark and suspenful, the characters were fun, etc. The 3D was done in a reasonable way and had me on the edge of my seat. I hope that when it's released on DVD/Blu-Ray they include the 3D version of the film, especially since I kept my 3D glasses. Even if they don't, I'm sure it will still look amazing.
 
I saw it last night and it weird, dark, creepy, and GREAT. It really sets a new standard for stop-motion animation today. I had to remind myself a lot of the time that this was a STOP-MOTION film, REAL puppets in REAL sets, not CGI. Holy crap... the animation was so fluid.

GO SEE IT! It's a good film! It needs your support at the box office!

But don't take any kids under 8 or 9 years old ;) It's not a movie for little kids. Let's just say this movie is 10x creepier then Nightmare Before Christmas and Corpse Bride put together.
 
I'm glad to see the film doing so well at the box office. A mere 25% drop in ticket sales in it's third weekend. :) I'm hoping to get a second viewing of the film in before it leaves theaters.
 
According to Neil Gaiman himself, the only way you'll be able to see it in 3D is in the theatre.

So if you don't see it this week, you're SOL.
 
I'm going to probably catch it on a Tuesday special.

Does the movie have songs? I remember Selick's previous films had songs, which I didn't always like (though I did like the films overall)
 
The thing about the 3D process is I don't think what they do in theaters can really be replicated on a TV screen -- one is a projection and the other is RGB backlighting. I'm not sure whether or not there is currently a 3D method for televisions that works quite as well as the method used in theaters. The home video version of Polar Express 3D is a bit underwhelming -- it comes with red & blue 3D glasses. But I know I've seen non-red & blue glasses used for TV in the past, so I don't know if that's an accurate representation.
 
ah man, i guess boyfreinds across the country are already being drug in to see he's just not that into you....i thought they would have at least waited until next week for valentines day. speaking of which, i think it's a safe bet that jason nabs number one next week. i was hoping for coraline to do pretty well. it's great to see movies like this and corpse bride pop up in theatres. looking forward to checking it out soon.
 
I just got back from seeing it. It's a pretty good movie. I'd give it an 8/10. Although I will admit that it could be a little creepy at times. Still, a really good movie!
