Community Thread / Tips and Questions

I've actually listened to a few of these now and damn I need to learn how to work fruity loops. FA's 2001 and the swervin ones were really cool and Eliminator's russian thing was just odd but in a good way.

Well, Burt's been good about banning the idiots, most of them at least. Which keeps spamming down to a minimum, aside from the angsty arguements every once and a while. I think everyone's been better about it really. The noobs who crit eachother like little homos is what gets to me worse. That and the general decline of decent writing on the boarRAB.

I quoted wiki in an essay a while back and it turns out that they don't like that.

So i'm back now, because it turns out the rest of my group aren't actually that bright and haven't done anything. And what they have done is terrible. So I'm drinking a crapload of coffee and waiting to go back into campus for my seminar. And its raining.

My life is so exciting.

Song of the Month was a better idea, but it died because hardly anyone participated. The same will probably happen with this.

Instead of creating another circle-jerk, an all-around better idea is consolidating all of the stickied threaRAB into one or two so there's more room on the front page.

The S&L Community Thread seems to have shrivelled up and died, unfortunately. Let's take a moment to mourn the loss.

Wait...

I'm still in mourning for the Rep Points system.

Does anyone know exactly why that happened? I have some ideas, but none of them are verified "truth" yet.

edit: to slack - agreed on both counts

i think its the ability to "**** it up" and the degree to which it is fucked, which dictates the success of the writer. for example, Duffy is hailed as one of the best contempary poets, and the way she reinterprets old ideas, most notably in the world's wife, shows her consumate skill at writing from new, in her case mostly feminine, perspectives.

ironically yes it seems, star wars can be seen as original or a mich mash of westerns, and so on. but then, it brought new ideas to the sci fi genre, at least on a mainstream level.
there's a narrative theory, can't remember who's, that says there are several basic story lines, and all stories revolve around these. but then its the new spin the author puts on these that determines the originality.

to eliminator: proof?

Hello thread.

I owe atabner a crit, which I will be doing after this post (assuming there is nothing outstandingly interesting in the main forum when I leave this thread), and dubious steve (or whatever his name is... I forget) is also owed a critique.

After that, I may write something - I've had a few good lines floating round this week.
