Community Thread / Tips and Questions

His writing is very contemporary. The short story wasn't badly written... in fact, his imagery was quite ellegantly depicted, too much almost. Very... graphic.

Thank you, sir. Once I get this out of the way... I will be able to get back on track with my writing. I have been idle recently. But school is just a scapegoat --- I am learning how to write. :)
 
On some other forums - art ones, for instance, you have each member basically making a 'collection' thread - saves for people having to find every thread you make so they can crit.

I just thought it would be a nice idea for me to type a few of my favourite songs into one thread instead of filling up a few pages with them.

Follow suite because it is obviously more convenient.

anyway i haven't typed up my thread yet so bear with me.
 
It is a good idea, but it's also very hard because finding someone who posts more than once is part of the problem. Some people, and i'm sure you've seen this, post one song, get a few crits and never return, despite good things being said about their writing.

Also, like you said, finding good new writers is pretty hard. IMO writing is as much about practice as it is about talent, but some people see" this isn't very good" type comments and take it as sign to give up writing. It's a bit of a self perpetuating problem because you can't give people the advice needed to improve incase they never come back, but if you don't then they never improve and you eventually have to tell them they suck, and then they never come back anyway.

I'll try my best to strike a balance in my critiques(which will be more frequent soon) between incouragement and criticism. It's the best any of us can do about it, i think.
 
Lately I havn't been too productive whatsoever, compared to the past when I would jot everything in a journal. Now I just say fuckit and try to remember it later when I'm next to the computer.
 
I'm doing alright, I'm just stressed out. I've got all my normal priorities, and now I've got to learn a 7-10 minute audition for getting into college. No big deal. I'm just losing sleep. Nothing special.

It's not that i need help.. I'm trying to have a fast amalgamation(if thats a word) :lol: . But looks like im the reject now haha. Ah well, i'll hang around.
 
I'm weird when I troll here. It has to be for either:

a) making a severely awful comment about other users (no matter who).
b) horrible song to bad to even look at

So well... I try to be nice most of the time, though. That makes me feel alright. :,/
 
Soft synth was hard so I gave up and started trying to install reason because it seems more suited to that kind of thing.
But it didn't work.
So I've started trying to just take some random melody from something and fiddle around with semitones/groove pool/frequency until it sound something like I want it to.
