Cloverfield/1-18-08

I can't wait til it comes out, not just because it looks great, because all these stupid americans are gonna go 'oh....it wasn't Godzilla/A Lion/Cthulhu'
:-P

Just watched it this afternoon, very enjoyable movie i'd say, well thought out and the hand held worked so well, definatly wouldn't have felt so involved otherwise. Not sure its a 5 star, definatly 4.9 :p. Some good 'jump' bits and 'funny' bits too. Shame its only 1h 13m long :(

I had to go ou tjust before 4pm, so this is the first chance I have had to see it.

I know there was a posting about someone from chud.com having seen it before, but the description doesn't do the trailer justice.

Looks good, but I guess we will have to wait and see if this still has the feel of Blair Witch (camera's etc) and the look of Godzilla (big monster destroys New York) in the end product.

I think the best bit in the film is when
Marlena (or whatever her name is) BLOWS UP behind that curtain!! The build-up to it is great with all the military around and everyone screaming, and on top of that you have the thing with Hud (the cameraman) really liking Marlena, he gets to know her a little more - when she gets her back ripped up by the little monsters! - and then she just...goes up in a cloud of blood!! Madness .

Overall it was good but would have been much better if you didn't know what to expect. It was hyped too much.

It looks like we wont get to see this film in the UK untill Feburary 2008 according to Empire:

"Empire has just learned that JJ Abram's secret project, generally known as either Cloverfield or 1-18-08, is to be released on February 1 in the UK. Guess that means we can rule out 1-18-08 being the final title, unless Paramount really want to confuse people.

There's still next to nothing known about the movie, which Abrams is producing and Matt Reeves directing, although it's generally accepted that it centres on a monster attacking Manhattan."

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's right, although he had always had an unrequited love for her before that point, so him wanting to risk his life for her is still believable despite them just having the one night together.

The only issue I had with the film is that it feels slightly too short.

Saw the movie last night and loved it, and as a guy in his mid-twenties I did find it quite frightening at times!

I had complete motion sickness throughout though, I had to spend long perioRAB with my eyes shut as I was that nauseous. And the volume was so loud at times, I thought the speakers might blow! It all adRAB to the effect though, you feel as you're there with them.

I thought the design sketches of it, as a giant multi limbed walking blue whale monster thing, with six foot parasite thingummies has gone up on the net a while back, or were they fakes?

I really want to see this at the cinema. People have said you need the full room of other people to get the full experience.
But a few people in america I know said they went to see it and sometimes the motions and the format of handheld camera stuff, made them feel a bit nauseous.
Being an emetophobe this has made me a bit worried about how other people around me are gonna be feeling....

Haven't heard much about this recently so checked back at http://www.1-18-08.com/ to find there is a new picture with Japanese script on the back.....

Most intriguing until I dug around on the IMDB message boaRAB to find that its a recipe for soup! I can't read japanese so I can't verify this so there could be more to it.

Anyone else heard or seen anything new about this film?

Saw this movie last night, basically unaware of all the hype, so going in completely open-minded.

I loved it and would definately watch it again. The shaky camera action didn't bother me at all, though my other half didn't like it, and I felt it added to the realism of the film. You felt like you were there in a way, and experiencing the panic the way the characters were. Like when they were running through the streets and on the bridge.

Couple of moments made me jump and a few made me laugh. (Hud kind of reminded me of Hurley from Lost). I thought the acting was very good, and not knowing the geographical layout of NY I wasn't put off by any poetic licence the producers may have taken with the location!!

The monster was pretty scary - I was half expecting Godzilla, but the Alien monster thing was pretty nasty. And I liked the way it wasn't explained - we don't know where it came from, or if the bombing worked, or how many people were killed.

All in all, a really good movie.
9/10:)
