Cloverfield/1-18-08

i watched this movie on saturday (02.02.2008) it was rubbish..... where did this monster come from? why was rob hawking going to japan? this must be the worst movie of this year.... dont bother wasting your time going to the cinema... wait till it comes out on dvd or sky if your interesting in seeing it...... and i know its like blair witch project the cameras but its made feel sicks.... a movie with a beginning, middle but no end??? please god there isnt a sequel of this awful movie!

Here is some news on Dark Horizons about 1-18-08:

"Dread Central claim to have an inside source on the "Cloverfield/1-18-08" project who has talked a bit about the monster we can expect to see:

"It's not Godzilla or Voltron (duh) or even Cthulu; anyone expecting there to be some sort of elaborately detailed backstory may be in for a disappointment.

Expect an old-fashioned monster movie retold in a very modern Blair Witch sort of way - but with a twist. You see that giant monster that emerges from the ocean to begin laying waste to New York City ... it didn't come alone.

Much of the movie will revolve around the characters fleeing for their lives, not from the big one stomping the city, but from the "raptor-like" smaller versions hunting them down.

Word from the start has been that this would not be a mega-budget movie and the digital effects work needed for a giant monster trashing New York City would no doubt cost a heck of a lot more than street level action of people being chased by smaller monsters."

They should forget the HDDVD realease, and sell it on Mini DV, so you can watch it on your camcorder.

btw, worst film I've seen since Spy Hard. I'm really worried about Star Trek now. :(

my comments about IMDB or the fact so many seem to think this on IMDB

see for yourself if you have doubts: they go on and on about this Lion fixation along with , the fact it is a new Godzilla movie(despite the rights reverting back to Toho) it's chtlu, it's a robot etc etc until you are so sleepy, you feel like napping

They spoke quite clearly about Rob being vice president of a company and his move to Japan.

I thought the film was really good. I liked how it revolved around the characters rather than explaining about the monster. Who knows..that may be explained in a sequel.

I liked the way the hand held camera style made you feel as if you were 'part' of the action.

I would reccomend this film!

I get the concept of an oil rig supposedly stirring up some leviathan from the deep, but I can't see how that can be connected to a satellite falling out of orbit. Even if said satellite didn't just burn up as most do, it would have been melted into an unrecognisable lump before smashing into the ocean. If it managed to survive even that, it would sink to the bottom where presumably it could be recovered quite easily by a deep sea salvage operation. No drilling would be required and it would take a lot longer to drag a drilling platform into place than a salvage ship anyway, so why bother?

In any case, the big explosion at the start clearly wasn't the rig as that was mid-Atlantic. It presumably wasn't the oil tanker either as that seemed pretty intact, so what was it? Also, given the timing of when the Statue of Liberty's head arrived on the scene to when we first saw the monster (a few seconRAB) it looked like the monster had snapped the head off, carried it onto Manhattan and then chucked it at the tall building which had clearly offended it in some way!

Don't get me wrong, I thoroughly enjoyed the film, and actually would rather none of this background stuff existed. But as it does, and as I enjoy picking holes, I will! Let's face it, if Mr Abrams spent so long putting all the viral stuff together, he should have made damn sure it all made sense!

How did u not get that they were a past couple??? all the old tape footage clearly shows them a year ago on holiday together??? All they meant by the one night stand is that they had had a Ross and Racheal moment by sleeping with each other a couple of weeks before hand!

Just seen this...
I know I said I didn't like stephen Kings "The Mist" very much. But I can't help comparing this movie to it and thinking how good it really was!!!

Ok. Cloverfield. A clever action movie that didn't really draw me in (kind of like J.J's Mission Impossible). So, yes, I am a little concerned about the new Star Trek.
