Cloverfield/1-18-08

Was so looking forward to it - and I have to say I feel pretty let down.
No spoilers from me but only one bit made me jump and to be honest I felt no tension whatsoever.
I really can live with a stretch of the imagination but please this really did push it to the extreme.
Only 2 out of 5 from me :(

This film seems interesting but I can't say it looks like a film that is gonna have you jumping up and down in your seat.

And the monster seems to look like SIN from FFX.

This was on Aintitcool.com about 1-18-08:

"JJ Abrams drops Harry a Line on all this 1-18-08 stuff!

Hey folks, Harry here... There's conspiracy theories abounding regarding JJ's little flick to juice us up for his badass STAR TREK recreation. So JJ Abrams wrote me to give us all a clue, cuz we're at square one of this mystery! But note... the game sites apparently have nothing to do with JJ. And also... he seems to be stating that you guys have yet to find all the sites he's put up... and yes, you'll have to find them. The man is laughing at you, me and all of those hiding in the shadows. SO... find em if you can... let us know here at AICN... seems we have a scavanger hunt, ain't it cool?
Dear Sir,

Thanks for your support of our little movie. I can't wait to talk to you more about it -- of course, knowing you, by the time we talk you'll know more than I will.

Regarding the online stuff you posted: yeah, we're doing some fun stuff on the web. But, obviously, if the movie doesn't kick some massive ASS, who gives a rat's about what's online? So as you can imagine, we're focusing mostly on THAT. For what it's worth, the only site of ours that people have even FOUND is the 1-18-08.com site. The others (like the Ethan Haas sites) have nothing to do with us.

Stay cool the rest of the summer -- and thanks per usual for AICN!

JJ"

Very interesting and the trailer does look very good. I cant wait to find out more!

Finally got to see this last night, brilliant scary intense film although I actually felt sick with the camera movement for long perioRAB which is strange for me as this sort of thing usually doesn't bother me.

 Blimey, I couldn't be arsed with the ins-and-outs tbh, lol. As far as I was concerned, it was there (and it was winning ;) ) The more you analyse a film like this the less enjoyable it becomes, imo. And I did enjoy it.

To quote Scream: -

"Did Norman Bates have a motive? Did we ever find out why Hannibal Lector liked to eat people? DON'T THINK SO! See, it's a lot scarier when there's no motive". ;)

I just saw it tonight - what a fantastic film. I'd say it's a landmark in film-making. Really well done.
But - I've got the same problem as Insaneperson - I was with a friend who likes to leave immediately the credits come on, so can anyone tell me is there anything more after the credits?

i wouldn't download this, if that's what you're on about.

i wouldn't get it on DVD either for that matter - it's a great film but not one I feel I could watch multiple times.

so the shadows are obviously the radiation suit blokes and not little monsters

there is some kind of tentacle thing in the later part of the trailer though!

Cloverfield is such a good movie!!! :D I loved watching it, I got to see it for my birthday 2 weeks ago and it was good, just as suspenceful, thrilling, and shocking as I had hoped. It definately lived up to the hype and expectations. It's now become one of my favourite monster movies.

I have just come back from seeing it at the cinema and all I can say is WOW. Unlike Snakes on a plane, this movie DOES LIVE UP TO IT'S HYPE. I loved the sense of realism of the movie and the sense of tension was palpable throughout the movie. You could feel the tension and the nervous anticipation in the packed cinema, the whole audience were on tenderhooks and glued to the movie. I felt this movie was great because it was belivable, and the hand held cameras made this possible. Another way this movie worked was the stunning special effects, that just made it all seem belivable, and casting an unknown cast was brilliant, and they could act and a half.

I had issues with the camera as well.
I mean surely you would give yourself a better chance of escaping if you wern't lugging a camera around with you everywhere. I mean this is operation save-ass (To quote Assault on Precinct 13), one does not need to film everything.
Also I would have thought that the Statue of Liberty Head would have done a lot more damage. I mean flying through the air at a thousand miles an hour.
