Classic/Iconic/Art films you think are rubbish

To be honest I can only pass judgement on the first twenty minutes or so of the Matrix. I cannot really believe any adult has watched it all the way through apart for film study purposes. Same goes for that ridiculous Sleeping Tiger tosh Movie BTW, has that been mentioned already.

I was forced to watch "room with a view" once as it had got an Oscar or two and so therefore my wannabe pretentious pillock of a boyfriend decided that it was a fantastic film.

I hated it - and him, he bit the dust!

Surely it's ll subjective anyway, my favourite film is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and no-one can tell me I'm wrong in that, as it's my personal taste

Trying my very best at the moment to watch some of the classic films listed in this thread.
Did not 'get' The Third Man or Citizen Kane - sorry but they left me cold.
Just watched Grapes of Wrath today and loved that.
I SO want to send this thread to someone I know - only thinks art house or low budget films are great - full of pretension when it comes to Hollywood - makes me so angry!
Gone with the Wind is my fav film of all time - can't believe people don't love it - horses for courses I guess!

Well good, it's great you get something from his films, they just don't do it for me, but I must admit, I haven't watched his work for 20 years or so. You recommend a corker, I'll give the guy another go. ;) Art's very personal, and I wouldn't say he was a bad director, just bugged me, but I will try again.

There's a lot of films being discussed here that I would not classify as Classic, Iconic or as Art Films. I mean, really...The Doors, Casino, Heat, LoTR, Clerks, The Green Mile, HoFD...but everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

One of the most over rated for me is Citizen Cane.

Moulin Rogue is a pile of complete and utter drivel imo.

I should love it. I love musicals but for some reason I found it as entertaining was watching paint dry.

Star Wars is crap as well. Rubbish for sad middle aged men who still hanker after their childhood's.

I like Room With A View, it's funny and lovely to look at and, yes, it has willies in it.

My vote would go to Woody Allen, especially for Crimes and Misdemeanours.

Nobody's mentioned 'Close Encounters of the Third Kind'. This appears to be considered a classic by some, but I found it a complete load of banal drivel. 2001 however is not.

The Englist patient- dull, cant engage with the characters.
Apocalypse Now- NEVER got this one. Highly overrated IMO. Brando irritates me in this- the old ham!
Seveth Seal- pretentious shite! For posers only.
Forrest Gump- cheesy and horrendously jingoistic.

Lost in Translation - maybe I didn't give it a proper chance, but I watched the first 40 mins or so and it was so boring, I just couldn't get into it.

Agree with Blow Up - I didn't see what the fuss was about. It had very little plot.

Maybe not a rubbish film but I thought No Country For Old Men was incredibly overrated - I thought it was just OK, a well made film with a few good performances but nothing special. There Will Be Blood was robbed!!!!!!!!

Amelie - Not a terrible film, but again nothing special. Plus the lead character really annoyed me

The Green Mile - by no means a bad film but not worth the praise it gets IMO. I've always seen it as the poor cousin of Shawshank.

Most overrated of all for me is Life is Beautiful (La Vita E Bella) - very irritating, overrated film. I hated the treatment of the Holocaust, I saw nothing inspirational about it and the ending was possibly the worst ever. Insulting.
