Classic/Iconic/Art films you think are rubbish

The Green Mile - Tedious to the point of giving up
The Usual Suspects - So far up it's own backside it should be a comedy
Fight Club - Oh please, grow up
The Shawshank Redemption - Didn't buy any of it

I hate the Star Wars films and Forrest Gump (not sure if Forrest Gump was meant to be iconic, but I seem to be the only one who hates it!)

With a lot of the above movies you may find it takes time to appreciate them. I watched a lot of those when I was younger and never 'got' them, but now I really enjoy them.

Two films that went completely over my head were Lost in Translation and The Royal Tannenbaums.

Just cannot see the appeal of them...they were a chore to sit through for me.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - cloyingly self indulgent
House of Flying Daggers - too boring
Lost In Translation - unneccessarily over-subtle
Fast and Furious - over the top machismo
Ace Ventura - just crap

.... Just the top five of many...

Eternal Sunshine is my favourite film ever, and House of Flying Daggers is in my top 15 of foreign-language films.

Although I agree with all of your others. Everything about Ace Ventura makes me cringe.

I see people have mentioned the following:

The Usual Suspects
Donnie Darko
both pretty similar really. the plot twist comes at the very end of the film, & enRAB the film. Usual plot twist in a film is a lot earlier, & is needed to explain what happened, as most of it wont have made any sense. In Usual Suspects & Donnie Darko, what happens before the twist does make sense.

Elephant
its a reaction art film, purely a reaction to a real event. its basically saying 'look at whats happened'. its not meant to be analysed to death, if your doing that, youve got it all wrong.
