Chicago

yes, but get them from a "hole in the wall " type place and if you don't get
poppy seeds on the bun they are ripping you off, best places are the ones
that give you the greasy bag with fries and dog all in there, Lee

That's kind of the purpose. Even though London is piled high with good
food these days from everywhere and anywhere, aim is always a) find
another big city b) read up for a month beforehand c) eat and d) write
about it, if at all possible. New York is always the obvious
destination food-wise, but I've been there twice now.

My lips are sealed from now. I guess every Usenet group has its

Ya' jes gotta look harder, Peaches, but I feel your pain. While you
couldn't get me to Chicago at gunpoint, I'd damn near take a bullet
for a real Vienna Chi-dog.

The real pisser is, Vienna Beef now sells a smaller cheaper no-skin
version of their bigger encased dogs and I've discovered more than one
Vienna Chi-dog purveyor, here in CO, subbing the cheaper dogs while
still charging real snapper dog prices. Grrrrr.....

It's the same misguided logic that leads Zagat to give 25-point

Yeah, can you imagine asking someone what the best BBQ in town is and
they answer "Famous Dave's"? Doesn't happen in places reknowned for one
sort of BBQ or another like KC, Memphis or a long list of other places.
Where it does happen that's a sign that it's best to ask about other
sorts of local food.

There are a lot of small local chains in the metro area and that is one
of them. I've been to two of them in different locations out in the
'burbs. One is only a few blocks away. I love the "beer can chicken".

They have an enormous Weber grill sculpture facing the road so it's easy
to tell when you've found the place.

Don't bother replying as I won't see it. I just haven't got my

I don't recall which one, but one of the food/travel programs which abound
these days featured a Chicago thin crist pizza joint and it looked fabulous.
IIRC it was a thick-vs-thin kind of presentation.

I'm not a deep dish pizza fan myself. The crust must be thin and crispy, to
serve as the perfect vehicle for delivering the sauce, cheese, and toppings.
