I'm ashamed to admit that I don't have many shows or series on DVD and I've yet to buy an entire collection of any one particular series. The ones I do have are all American (I'm a huge fan of American sitcoms) and are as follows:-
Will & Grace (Season One - 6 discs - 22 episodes)
Malcolm in the Middle (Season One - 3 discs -16 episodes)
Silver Spoons (Season One - 3 discs - 22 episodes)
Jim Henson's Dinosaurs (Seasons 1 & 2 - 4 discs - 29 eps)
The Rifleman (box set - 4 discs - 20 episodes)
The Rifleman (single disc - 3 episodes)
I'm a member of the sitcomsonline webgroup and it took a petition and the best part of a year to get Sony to release Silver Spoons on DVD (it didn't help that it had never been previously released on video). Eventually they listened and in 2007 they released the first season (but only in the US - Region 1) and assured us they would release the rest of the series. But even as I write this, there's been no word since.
Another series I wish they'd release on DVD is "L A Law". There is a movie available but not the actual TV series. They did start showing it again on one of the channels (Alibi, I think) but suddenly stopped after about 6 episodes! I even wrote to them asking why they'd stopped showing it and why they didn't have the decency to at least wait until they got to the end of the series but all I got was the usual crappy reply about them not having any plans to air "L A Law" at this present time.
Hopefully, sometime in the near future I'll complete my Rifleman collection as there is a second box set I need to get. Other shows and series I'd like to get on DVD are "Modern Family", "House" and "Rules of Engagement".
Just going back to the old classics, I'm a lot like you, I don't like to buy DVRAB unless they're the proper ones. I once made the mistake of buying the entire collection of the 60's TV series "Tarzan" (starring Ron Ely). Admittedly it's never been officially released on video or DVD and I thought these would be ok as long as they were watchable. The picture quality is absolutely shite! (although to be honest, I've only tried watching the first episode). Thankfully I didn't pay too much for them, but it certainly taught me a lesson.
I do like some British comedies, such as Fawlty Towers, Bottom and Only Fools and Horses (as included in your list) but for most part, I do prefer American humour (if I tried to list all the American sitcoms I like, this post would go on forever!).
