Call from BEV to "inventory" my receivers

My God, that really does help to explain the shear apathy of that department, they treat all the people they call as thieves until proven inocent.....

Seriously??
It's like a rapist saying that the victim had it coming because she wore tight pants. (yes, before you all jump down my throat, i know this is an extreme analogy, but extreme is all that seems to work around here some days)

So BEV gets a bad name because people can hack their system.
Well, if those people were law abbiding in the first place, it wouldn't even be an issue.

The major problem is that people in society think it's acceptable to break the law, because 'no one gets hurt' except a big faceless corporation.

Oh and as for the cable companies not having rampant theft, I can tell you of an entire building that is recieving cable for free. That's 100 or so apartments and it's been happening for over a year. The landlord actually mentions it when you move in.

Or how about all the times you move into an apartment and the cable is still running because the cable company 'forgot' to shut it off. When in reality, they wanted people to get use to having it so that when they did shut it off, the person would call to subscribe.

Stealing is stealing. Just because it's easier to do, doesn't mean people should do it.

Nem, who really thinks this country needs a new moral backbone.

It's been suggested that Bev is complicit in this piracy scheme, could there "ease of reporting" be part of that?

And I'm curious as to what qualifies as 'really outrageous' ??

As always we must be careful what we ask for for fear we actually might get it.

multiple dishes, on the front of the house
lines coming from dishnetwork dish, into a disecq switch, and then a line coming from the expressvu multi switch, into the disecq switch
they have a short on the jumper used, and call bell to complain
the call is a warranty call, because the installation was done within the last 90 days
so now to get paid, the installer has to explain what caused this warranty call(faulty/shorted jumper installed by customer)
i've heard of situations like this, or similar
i feel for the techs, as they are expected to report these types of instances, take photos if possible, then email pics, all for nothing to be done
keep in mind, these techs live where they work (for the most part) so if they report a pirate, they have to worry about bumping into the customer at the local grocery store
bell should have their own in house piracy dept, to take the responsibilty off of the installer, who is just trying to make a buck, not catch crooks
send expressvu trucks around to inspect/catch pirates, but maybe thats not what they want to do....

Nothing is updated, it's just some BS line the SAT group uses so the subscriber dosen't realize/find out why they are calling.

Your computer does not call in a receiver, the satillite receiver call out on its own, a dp receiver will do so every 60 days automatically, older legacy models dial out more frequently.

(********/satelliteagreements)

It was in the post where the policy was written on the first line

This site doesn't display adress so **** are for bell then .ca

I decided to be a good guy and hook up my 9200 to the phone line for PPV orders etc and to avoid the calls from Bell asking for the location ID's.

I have only 1 phone line in the house, its only a small place, so I opted for a Wireless Phone Jack, bought it from a Bell World Store.

I specifically asked if it was suitable for my own installation as all my Hydro to the various pieces of electronics run through Power Bars (These are also from Bell, Panamax DBS6 models) and I was assured that there would be no issues.

When I bought the 9200 I retried the old 5200 to the Sun Room, I thought it made sense to add a Wireless Jack to this at the same time.

So here I am, driving away from a Bell World Store $160 or so lighter in my Wallet but happy to know that I can now enjoy PPV ordering and even Caller ID on my 9200 & my 5200.

How wrong could I be. These Phonex Wireless Jacks DO NOT work if used in conjunction with Power Bars. What a rip off.

I took them back but as they had been opened they would not give me a refund, I called Bell to complain but again what a waste of time.

Does anyone have Wireless Jacks working through Power Bars.? Are my Power Bars just too good.?

I just mentionned that I translated from French to English because I only had a French copy of the contract with me...and only mentionned it to basically advise you that it was not word to word the article in the English contract. Policy is the same taught!

But will happen less and less...the new SAT departement is apparently very small, but make thousands out calls a day telling the client to call back. Also, being a small departement they could talk between each of them and warn them of they have doubts. I've transferred 3 calls there that week where they told me oh, Mr A calling again...well as you can read notes on the account he could not get verified before tommorow, but I camn seak with him

If EV requires their receivers connected to a phone line, then they should supply the phone jacks. 50' phone cords don't come close to being adequate, even when phone jacks are close to the receiver. Phone line splitters should also be supplied (*C does this.) Then there is the issue of the shoddy work (or lack of work) that Bell did in the past regarding supplying phone jacks when ordered to by the CRTC.

I honestly could care less :P I just like to see you work overtime on this board ;) But I stand with my most logical point. They should worry about piracy before multiple locations.

If you don't give them your phone number they can't call you.
I guess if you have a Bell phone this is not an option.
Otherwise if they need to contact you they can send it via Canada Post.

location ID is a created by a mathmatical formula based on the the receiver ID and time. In now changes every 10 mintues on dp models, but still changes on the hour on 2700 models.

That lidcalc program does not work anymore for dp models, only works for the 2700 I believe.

One of my receivers is not near a phone line and is therefore not plugged in to one. The others are. I get called at least once a year to verify their location. I have never had them anywhere else but this address. I've never had a cottage, motor home, etc. As a supervisor once told me, if you have 2 or more receivers and at least one of them is not dialling in regularly, you are potentially subject to a verification call. Being tagged as "cottage" may increase you're chances of a call, but you may be called whether tagged or not.
