Burzum

Be thankful it's no longer this cover:

Not sure if this debate of ours is getting anywhere, but I'll get back to you when I have time for a more thorough response. Right now I have some snow to play in. :)

It is a fact that he had no access to anything but a synth in prison. Not saying that he might have not used a guitar anymore if he was given one, but he wasn't, and could not have gotten one.

Quoted me before I could edit it. Yeah I post before I think. I still think i'd feel uncomfortable listening to it. But then again, even with the murder and arson and what have you... the whole motif is kind of silly.

Varg made the move to cheesy synth music because the Prison, as Axiomatic points out, didn't allow guitars. Any claim that this was ideological for him trying to compensate for epic fail.

or you know... because of the music itself. but who cares what the public thinks about it anyways? if you like it you like it.

i enjoy hvis lyset tar oss but i haven't really gotten into any of his other albums. i don't agree with his racist views, (although i find his character interesting) and i don't see how my listening to the music makes me supportive of them.

Tore, if you want to follow your logic to the end, don't listen to black metal, period. Quick, name a Black Metal band of worth which isn't either racist or highly influenced by a racist band.

....

I can't think of any.

^His entire racist philosophy is completely intertwined with his music and music theory. His racist and violent persona is the music. Are you denying he encouraged hatred of people and destruction of property?

I'm not talking about banRAB being influenced.

Varg set fire to various churches, he knife-killed a friend and he's an outspoken racist. I think the guy is an ass. Are you saying everyone in black metal kills their frienRAB, are racists and set fire to churches? I don't think so.

Burzum is easy to ignore for me because of the crimes he did and the fact he's a one-man act and Burzum reflects Varg Vikernes and noone else. I don't like Varg so I don't like Burzum.

Now, can I not listen to Burzum in peace? ;)

When night falls
she cloaks the world
in impenetrable darkness.
A chill rises
from the soil
and contaminates the air
suddenly...
life has new meaning.

Here are the lyrics of my favorite Burzum song. Is ther something in particular in these lyrics that should make me uncomfortable listening to Burzum?

Put simply, artists benefit from people listening to them - whether they spend money on their albums, spend money on concerts or other wares, spread the artists' popularity so that other people spend money/spread it further, listen to them on services like spotify so that they get higher ratings and make more cash, heighten their status as musician - such as praising his influence on black metal, etc etc etc.

Ask the opposite; how does listening to Burzum not support Vikernes? That's a harder question to answer, I think.

I have a feeling that if I'd written that I don't listen to U2 because I think Bono is a douche, then more people would have understood. ;)

Read, you'll see it's not about the lyrics (which I understand perfectly well in a literal sense). However, it's alright for me if you don't get it. It's not like I have to turn Varg's fans away from him. I'm starting to regret bringing it up in the first place.

If you don't care what kind of person makes the music you listen to, fine. I do, I wouldn't want to listen to Charles Manson either.

^^^ again, it's already been pointed out that he moved away from guitars because the prison wouldn't allow him to use guitars. He pulled that bull**** about rock being "nigger music" after he wasn't allowed to use guitars.

it's black metal, who cares about the lyrics anyway? You don't need to be a wonderful person to make good black metal. you don't even need to be nice
