Bouquet of Barbed Wire ITV 1

This version had the 70s mores and morals running through it and it seems so out of place some 35 years later.

I hope this drama turns out to be more than a thriller with a family versus the psycho from oop north. I'll be surprised if they do manage to produce something interesting and unusual with this .

:o The sex scenes were fairly ropey too , Why is it that Jemma Rooper never gets her clothes off ?

The music wasn't a patch on the the original BOBW either. :)

Nigel Mansell doing adverts ?

Very disappointing ending. When Peter first went to the window and the sun was streaming in I thought he was waking up to a new day, ready to start again, realizing that life was worth living. The the birthday balloon arrived and he got in. What are we supposed to think? That he jumped out, committed suicide?

The series had little to do with the original Bouquet. It might have been better received with a different title, instead of trying to latch on to a previous, highly successful series. Then we wouldn't have had such expectations.

Presumably a Caesarian was done on the poor dying, or recently dead, Prue.

In the first Bouquet series, the girl that Peter had an affair with was more central to the plot.

Still it was watchable and well acted.

Sorry, but I can't agree ... and I never saw the original (I wasn't allowed!).

As many others have pointed out, there is no earthly reason why Prue would marry Gavin. There is absolutely nothing charming about him whatsoever and making him so unlikeable is a major flaw.

The characters are just unbelievable - nothing like real people at all. And Cassie must be pretty crap at her job if she can't see what's going on under her own nose. Plus what did she think was the reason for Peter keeping his mother locked away in a home? Did she never question it before now? It just isn't real.

Logic gaps like that should have been addressed by the serials' many executive producers - instead, they're left gaping for everyone to see.

Or maybe they were too busy ensuring that Trevor Eve had his own hair and make-up assistant (check the credits) ... Who exactly does he think he is?

Enjoyed it but as others have said it did seem quite rushed. One minute Prue and Gavin are making eyes at each other in the classroom and the next minute she's preggers, they're getting married and he's a nutter.

That doesn't sound like love to me.

Meant to say earlier that although I like Trevor Eve a lot - I don't particularly want to see him 'at it' like that! :o:rolleyes:

I think a lot of people don't like BBW because it isn't set in America, and it doesn't have twenty episodes per series (sorry, I meant season)

it seems they don't want to show the young female as a destructive, manipulating character as the original seemed to show from the accounts of it here.

the 'she asked for it' approach may be too taboo nowadays

i too have started to enjoy the tangled web it weaves- the disappointment of it has subsided and i'm going with the flow

how anyone can fancy peter tho is beyond me!

You haven't missed anything. Paula has not yet been explained. The idea of a "mystery" is that all will be revealed in the final episode. I hope no one responds to your request and reveals who Paula is as that would ruin it for the rest of us who have never read the book or saw the previous series.

We only have to wait a week! So far rhe story has been easy to follow with full explanations coming (i hope) next week. If there are any unanswered questions then, that would be the time to ask for an explanation from those who have seen the original.

Seems to be a classic example of someone thinking they know better than the original author! Happens a lot with adaptations and remakes.

The story needs to be very different in order for me to make head or tail of it. LOL! I don't consider myself 'brainy' but neither am I a thicko and honestly, I couldn't make sense of a minute of this nonsense. I watched the first half of the first episode and gave up. It was making Mistresses look like a masterpiece, which is never a good sign! :D
