Bouquet of Barbed Wire ITV 1

I wouldn't say it was cautious. It's the changes to the characters I'm not keen on. They've made Gavin awful for one thing, and I wondered what the ending ( shown at the beginning ) was all about? Looks like the story is nothing like the book as I remember.

'And also I f@cked your mother on the sofa this morning!!!!'

Now there's a sentence you don't hear everyday. First laugh of the series.

Maybe your so-called 'average viewer' just prefers to watch a decent drama, which, if it was done as well as the original series, would stand on its own merits without the need for comparison with some old Greek tragedy or whatever.

Quite. If there were any intended references, and maybe there were (after all what was the horse theme and the Furies Gavin mentioned, sadly lost etc. :D all about?) then I'm not surprised that the name Cassandra was chosen over Clytemnestra. :p

Spot on there! :p

It would have been much more accurate to call it 'Bucket Of Bulls**t' :o

That's 3, long, tedious, confusing hours of my life that I'll never get back! :(:yawn:

Not that it makes a jot of difference but would you get a mentally unstable man a balloon flight for his birthday.

One way of getting rid of an estranged partner I suppose ;)

Overall I think the acting is OK (IMHO) - although one strange bit stood out - when Cassandra suddenly screamed like a maniac at Peter - seemed really OTT and out of character!?

The original really was about Peter and Pru's relationship and the incestuous undertones that ran through the original BOBW. Gavin was simply the outsider who intruded in their relationship.

The violence in Gavin and Pru's relationship started with Pru encouraging Gavin to be violent during sex and the violence eventually worked its way into arguements and so on.

Sarah was a substitute Pru for Peter. Thats why his sh*gging her at Pru and Gavins flat was such a big deal and of course why Pru got so jealous when she found out.

In the end of the second series Peter commits suicide by apparently taking an overdose. You don't see it though. You only realise he's dead when in the final scene a traffic warden puts a parking ticket on his car and you see several other tickets implying Peter has been dead in his flat for some time. Maybe he's still there, LOL!:D

I agree. I thought it was nicely observed. It was meant to be out of character because of her frustration/tension with what was unfolding.

I think Cassie is the most believable of the characters and HN plays her expertly. She is a marriage counsellor who has probably spent her time working with clients and ignored what is happening in her own family. She initially brought the therapist's detachment to her husband's angst but in ep 2 found that increasingly more difficult. I'm struggling to make sense of that last scene though  Gavin really does have an effect on Manson women for whatever reason :D

The adverts spoil it though - best to watch it through without them. I will definitely be watching next week :)

I don't remember it being in the book or the original. It was so loosely based on the original that they should have called it something else.
