Bottom, Young Ones, or Filthy Rich And Catflap

I watched 'boring' the other night on Watch I think, and they cut the whole Ford Tippex scene out just because of that word, yet they used to show the same word in Fawlty Towers?

Grrrrrrr. TYO should never ever be trimmed.

Over the past few days I've had a marathon Bottom session. Got to say it's definitely my favourite! Absolutely fantastic.
As much as I love Ade (and I do love Ade ;)) Rik is just utterly amazing.

Carnival, Gas, and Hole are probably my favourite episodes.

Bottom is the best for- purely based on the fact i've never seen the other two.

"Gas" is one of the best episodes of a sitcom I have ever seen.

Filthy rich and catflap followed by the young ones and then bottom.

fIlthy rich and catflap is my all time fave - it can only be saw in a cut fashion now . I have one or two original 1987 recordings and in their entirety they are classics

Ayone who hasn't seen Filthy Rich, go for it! It's almost like seeing another season of Bottom, but with an extra character (Nigel is great as world-weary, lecherous, chain-smoking "impresario" Ralph Filthy --- "Hello Filthy Ralph!" "That's Ralph Filthy, Eddie!"), and some (indeed, most) of the episodes are easily as good as the Bottom ones.

I guess you look at it this way (as they were made)---
Young Ones = training/proving ground
FR&C = Getting well into their stride, confidence and fun
Bottom = Masters of their art

No need to choose, as it's a clear evolution from one to the next...

I broadly agree - Bottom has stood the test of time (having watched it on satellite on Dave I think) as it relied on physical cartoon comedy and OTT mock violence (not dated apart from references to Sue Carpenter!) wheras The Young Ones, while still a good watch, has dated badly but with references to the "Thatcherite junta" (Rik) and very much set in the early 80s that is to be expected. I suppose when you consider some of the comedy shows since it will look a bit creaky....

Filthy Rich and Catflap I never saw and I believe has never been repeated since 1987 nor is on DVD but sounRAB like it was a forerunner to Bottom, so would be good to see....

The Bottom episode GASMAN still has me ROFL ("GAAAASMANNNN". "Do you have someone who looks after you?"):

"The Comic Strip Presents ... Mr Jolly Lives Next Door" (1986) was also another early glimpse of Bottom,
like a cross between the Richie and Eddie characters, and The Dangerous Brothers, with more extreme
slapstick humour and comedy violence, and stronger language than the TV version of Bottom.

For both Ade and Rik, the Young Ones.

But The New Statesman I always think is better.

Plus, on a couple of episodes of TNS, the guy who played Mike in TYO also appeared.

I agree about the young ones. I'll always have a soft spot for it. But I put some on the pc a while back to show my teens & I didn't get it anymore, the comedy I mean. It was quite strange
My teens weren't that impressed either. Times change I guess.
Yet I used to love some of the Carry ons, & enjoyed watching those recently. And Cell block H, I still love & watch them all now. Not a comedy I know.
