I thought of that case as well. But that is going back about 30 years.

It is a shame that kid had to die. But he put himself in that position by his obvious intention to not only commit an act of violence but by going out of his way to attempt it. It sucks to be him. But one less idiot in the gene pool so it is not all bad.

He acted within the law to stop a crime in progress. Of course we cheered for him.

And they weren't in the neighbor's house when he shot them. They were charging toward him.

I agree. But I wouldn't say the two things are related.

once he was inside, did they make any attempt to enter the house or otherwise harm him? did they shoot into the house? did they throw anything through the window? did they try to light it on fire? .... ANYTHING??

then "violent mob in the front yard" is an appeal to fear attempt to justify a wrong action.

But you have no right to shoot someone on the street when YOU put yourself in danger. When YOU created the problem. When YOU accelerated the issue.

It's self defense, not start a fight.

Wait, possession of a loaded gun in NY is a misdemeanor? WTF?

I thought California was bad.

No, the violent mob in the front yard is an actual fact of the case. We simply disagree on how to deal with it.

Not exactly. You are judging based on the opinions of people from other jurisdictions, which are worthless in NYC,

Since people are free to leave NYC whenever they want, I fail to see where you've proven there is an absolute wrong in NYC.

Five guys jumping one guy is not "having a fistfight". And stop with the wishing for yesteryear. A dead criminal is better than a hospitalized or dead victim of a 5-on-1 beating.

I agree with lettin people settle differences, but, again, 5 on 1 is not just a fistfight.

You...what would have happened if everyone stayed inside? The gun was still an option, if the interior was breached. OH NO, they broke a window.

Windows can be replaced. A life can not.

Many would argue that not much has changed between then and now as far the judicial system is concerned.

Vast differences. The obvious being that was in Texas, which has decided as a community what is reasonable action.

Location, location, location. People have a right to be able to decide what is acceptable behavior in their own community, within reason.
