Best horror film?

 ..Film 4 is now free!!!...TLGF is a classic gangster film staring Bob Hoskins.....i suppose you could class it as a "mans"...or am i being sexist!!!  :)

I'm surprised that Carrie doesn't seem to be get a mention. Seven is one of my favourites and Scream (I know its tongue in cheek) but the initial scene with Drew Barrymore is very scary.

the story is you look in the mirror and say candyman 5 times and he appears with a hook as a hand

and hang a mirror in ur room for extra effect when watching it
also u have to really focus on it its not just a simple stalk an slasher movie

If you're asking does he live in "The Wicker Man"... (spoiler follows)
no he doesn't - he's sacrificed in the original and the remake.

bodybags is also good it a type of movie thats told in 3 storys
the first story is the only one worth watching
the other 2 storys are s**t

the 1st its about a girl working in a gas station overnight
its really freaky.

also i think you have to watch these movies on ur own in the house with the lights off to get scared
if ur watching with sumone else nothing has the same effect
as it would on your own

thats the way it works

Biggebruv, you've just reminded me of the clasic Trilogy of Terror TV Movie starring Karen Black. The best segment in that "Amelia", about a woman being stalked by a murderous doll, was fantastic in its day.

And having got onto TV films who can forget the original Night Stalker which for its day was the biggest TV hit possible. Usually vampires had been creatures of the night skiulking around in the shadows. Night Stalker set a whole new trend by having the villain of the piece engage in a massive street fight with the local police force.

when I was at school many many many years ago you , the thing was putting a bible in your LEFT hand , the devil likes that one an you must say , Ruth, Ruth , Tell the Truth Where Are You ,

Ruth, Ruth , Tell the Truth Where Are You ,

Ruth, Ruth , Tell the Truth Where Are You ,

then lay the bible in your palm an the book would open at a certain scripture an halfway down she would be appearing to answer you , an telling you shes COMING ..
then folklore was you had a Angel Of Death To Kill people
With ...

lol...lol...lol....so dont cross me or Ruth will come for you ..lol

Evil Dead 1 and 2.

In fact, the entire Evil Dead trilogy with the superb comedy Army Of Darkness being the final piece of the puzzle is possibly, front-to-back, the best movie trilogy of all time as, unlike the Star Wars trilogy and The Godfather trilogy, the third installment isn't vastly inferior to the preceeding two.

But the original Night Of The Living Dead has to be up there too. Still incredibly eerie.

I wouldn't really class "Poltergeist" as horror. Sure, it scared me when it first came out, but I was about ten at the time.

The best horror films I've seen?
"Alien"
"Halloween" (the first one)
"The Wicker Man" (original version)
"The Thing" (John Carpenter version)

All others I've seen have been worthless junk.

I love horror films. My faves:

Psycho
The Shining
The Exorcist
The Last Broadcast (SOoo much scarier than The Blair Witch!)
Alien
Misery
Dawn of the Dead
Jaws
Rosemary's Baby
The Others
The Invisible Man

Also films that REALLY unnerved me: Blue Velvet and Don't Look Now.

The Wicker Man is terrible. The scariest thing on show is the acting! And the direction ;)

i feel the best horror movies are :

creep
wrong turn
evil dead
alien
predator
jason
freddy
saw
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
the ring
the exorcist
the descent
the amityville horror ( the new one)
house of wax
wolf creek
candyman

Video nasties are fun. You gotta get the uncut versions though otherwise its pointless.

Maniac is another slasher video nasty from the 80's. It is worth watching for the car shotgun scene alone. :D Get the region 1 version of this because the UK version is cut to pieces and can hardly be called a "video nasty".
