Maybe because he didn't do anything illegal? You obviously have no idea about the requirements that a person holding a CDL has to deal with. If he is transporting 10,000 gallons of gasoline, there are requirements that he has to adhere to, and as the article you quoted said, "this was standard operating procedure." Not to mention, Mexican truckers are only allowed to haul their load (Federal Law, not state) only SO FAR into the United States. Then they must decouple and turn it over to a person with a valid US CDL.

You, once again, FAIL at understanding reality.

You support every liberal policy (health care?) that goes against the Constitution. What about it do you really care about?

Where did they rule that Immigration Status is identifying yourself? The woman never refused to answer the question. The problem is, the SCOTUS has ruled multiple times that all you have to do is verbally identify yourself. You are twisting rulings to fit your opinion.

I thought the argument centered around reasonable suspicion of illegal status itself becoming an infraction of the law 'worthy' of questioning.

Right. I don't know if you have seen it or not, but another thread in here, not too long ago, presents a video in which several men openly carrying their unloaded pistols in public refuse to show ID when asked.

The real issue with Arizona's bout of recent legislation revolves around race, and the artist left that out. I think this was a mistake, because had the driver been 'brown', it would have touched on the silliness of being questioned about one illegal act (being an undocumented immigrant) after having committed an initial illegal act, like speeding.

You are a dear friend of mine, whose opinions I respect.

(I figured that would be the gravest and most cutting insult I could give you )

Whats sad is your piss poor attitude in NOT enforcing the laws we already have about this...

BTW CDL's are scrunitized more than any other license in this fucking country...

Because people are usually fucking clueless. The funny part is, I dare say that 99.44% of the people who say "You don't have to tell a cop anything or show them anything other than your name." will fold under any time a cop stops them. Very few are willing to be a "pain in the ass", and usually only ONCE. After they are hauled into jail, detained without charges for up to 48 hours (as is the law) while they are "checked out", I'm sure 90% of those people who are "Proving a point" won't pull that shit again.

OH )(&^(%$(^%&*^)(()^\?

I think the problem is you don't understand the nature of his job.

For example, he must carry an up to date log book that specifies in detail everywhere he's been in the last 7 days. This has nothing to do with immigration per se, but it is an absolute requirement. Not having it will get you arrested if the police feel you are intentionally avoiding the ramifications of that requirement.

Another example would be a multitude of permits and licenses that are a requirement to drive interstate. As I recall...and I admit it's been quite a few years, Arizona is a comparative pain in the ass about licensing.

I'm not going to try and list all the documentation required. Suffice to say it's significant. Now to relate that to what I said, if some guy pulled into a weigh station and was only carrying some sort of driver's license, it would be easy to conclude he was either a retard or from another country and unaware of the specific laws.

When I was driving a truck about 30 years ago, I had to carry a book of permits that was about 150 pages long. And I only had it in book form because the company I drove for ran a lot of trucks, and spent a significant amount of time and money putting it together. Smaller companies had individual permits.

If he was near the border, or near an area that is known for smuggling, I can think of many reasons he would be held.

a DRIVER'S LICENSE and PROOF OF VEHICLE REGISTRATION are required to drive, because driving is a privilege. Again, it has nothing to do with citizenship or freedom.

Do I realize it? Sure. Does that change the nature of the argument as it has been made? Not really.

And the cartoon does not address that either.

I agree. We shouldn't have to carry our driver's license, or insurance cards, or registration. Free country!

Heck, why even money? In a free country we should trust one another enough to just hand over goods.
