Are you "American"

The only place where abuse is institutional is France... so why don't you read up on French anti-terrorism laws and what the french are doing. The French don't even have to go outside their country to break the Geneva Conventions...they can do it in France....and have been doing it for some years now...Oh never mind , I know the 'fair' euro press will never devote much ink on european abuses.....maybe this is why you are so blissfully unaware of all the abuses taking place in europe.

There is a difference between critiscising a nations actions (i.e. US in the mid east) and bashing (i.e. Americans are cowarRAB/fools/ a**holes) I have done the former but not the latter.

Also it seems that the french bashing is due to a conveinent handle placed on the french by a certain sore sector of the American media. Comments along the lines of cowardly french can only lead to hurt feelings, just so you can satisfy a childish one up-man-ship

It's strange (and a little offensve) that the very folks on this forum who demand that we "support the troops" respect all things soldierly, would so quickly forget the sacrifice, suffering and outstanding bravery of the french resistance during WW2. Despite your talk of the US putting their ass on the line for freedom, the Marquis risked everything, and recieved no quarter from the Nazis in defending their freedoms. The french understand teror more intimatly than most americans, and have fought for it more fiercly and at greater cost than we can reckon.

Perhaps best to revisit your "cowardly french" additude before you sound like some sort of peacenik liberal?

What about those of us with dual citizenships? I mean, I was born in the US, and I live here, but I have Australian citzenship as well. Do I still count as an American? I'd like to think I do, but people like say...I don't know, VoR, might disagree with me.

So let me understand..........hypothetically, England is at war with France and you are a dual citizen living in England.............So in that situation you could swear allegiance to France and support them in the war?

You didn't get it did you ? When it is YOUR country that is under attack (9/11 for the US and the bombings in France in the 1990's) , You will do whateve it takes. I am not saying it is right but it is just a natural human reaction.

People like you who live in countries that are not No. 1 on the terrorist hit list can afford these luxuries, it is a different story for countries that have been hit by terrorists.

So my point (1) no it is not right (2) the end does not justify the means.....but in times of extraordinary circumstances people will go overboard....like what the french are doing and the US did in Gitmo. why have this double standard for the US ? judge them with the same standard you apply for the French.

I can tell you right now if the Toronto subway was bombed by terrorists, the last thing on my mind will be the Geneva convention !

I'm not absolutely sure but I'm pretty sure that you can be born elsewhere and you needn't apply for citizenship. I think if either parent is American the child automatically gets US citizenship, don't know how it works if you want to have dual-citizenship.

Come to think of it JP you are right !

He lives in OZtralia....you do know what they say about the women down under don't you ? (we won't even go into what they say about the men in the land of OZ ! )

Lesson for Toddlers (aka VOR).

The state is not the country. The people are not the state. Therefore the country is not the people. Learn to seperate the two: if you fail, you'll end up like VOR.

What are you talking about 'women down under'? I have found that some women like it 'down under' but some like on top? what about you? are you a 'down under' kind of woman? Hillary is definitely a 'woman up top' kind of woman, Monica instead.....:)

As portugal is a EU member state you have dual nationality. portugal and European union this means that you can use any member states embassy when abroad (if you should need to do so), also you have rights in the area of employment in other member states.

arn't we lucky?

It wasn't a military target but it may have been bombed to draw agression onto civilian targets to save military ones - pretty sure the actual reason isn't known though, that it might just have been a lost bomber jetisoning bombs over a light before going home.
