This is presuming that you don't consider the southern U.S. during the 1700-1800's a culture. Which it is a culture, even though AA's (or anyone else for that matter) cant trace back to the 1st member of their family. Its all relative really, for example, if one of my ancestors was a Roman soldier who was stationed in what is now the United Kingdom, but stayed there and had sons and daughters who had sons and daughters who became British citizens, then came to America, would I identify with the Roman, British, or American? For that matter, if I went back far enough both of us would be related somehow, and share a culture somewhere down the line. Their ancestors are those they as individuals (and a group) identify with the most , which in this case would be the very hard working, mistreated slaves in the Southern U.S. This is in and of itself an entire culture, and sub-culture alike. While their African Roots can still be traced back, maybe there is no real way to find out what Tribe , ect. they once belonged to, but they still have ancestors , heritage, and they definitely have culture.
