their ancestors? Are African Americans the only people who dont know the heritage/cultures of their ancestors due to whites enslaving them?

how could they NOT we have a whole MONTH dedicated to them..why them? im not against black ppl r nething, but the native americans are just as important as them, AND white folks made false things about them too, so we dont REALLY know exactly what happened with alot of different heritages.

Actually, a lot of African Americans that I know have researched their heritage, and because of slavery their heritage is documented.

no i'm sure their are plenty of other races who don't know their heritage/cultures of their ancestors like maybe people who are mixed with 25% of something or even 50% of something sometimes

I hate the term "African-American". Most "African-Americans" couldn't trace their ancestry back to the slave days. My ancestry goes back to Germany, but I don't call myself a German-American.

no, some whites don't either. If they are really mixed up with different cultures like a person who is 1/8 irish 1/8 german 1/8 italian 1/8 native 1/2 others..

This is presuming that you don't consider the southern U.S. during the 1700-1800's a culture. Which it is a culture, even though AA's (or anyone else for that matter) cant trace back to the 1st member of their family. Its all relative really, for example, if one of my ancestors was a Roman soldier who was stationed in what is now the United Kingdom, but stayed there and had sons and daughters who had sons and daughters who became British citizens, then came to America, would I identify with the Roman, British, or American? For that matter, if I went back far enough both of us would be related somehow, and share a culture somewhere down the line. Their ancestors are those they as individuals (and a group) identify with the most , which in this case would be the very hard working, mistreated slaves in the Southern U.S. This is in and of itself an entire culture, and sub-culture alike. While their African Roots can still be traced back, maybe there is no real way to find out what Tribe , ect. they once belonged to, but they still have ancestors , heritage, and they definitely have culture.

i owe somebody an apology two days ago. this is the dumbest question on yahoo ever! are you silly, what makes you think i dont know about my family's history and ancestory?

of course not most white people don't know either other than the fact that they are white due to..well alot of them are refugees as well who came to america for better opportunity and freedom. most native americans where actually smaller tribes at one point who had to unite and become a more dominant tribe to either keep their land and out nunber their opponents and take on the name of the more dominant tribe. get real that is a universal problem.

American descendants of the blacks sold into slavery by their own people in West Africa in the late 18th and early 19th centuries don't know the heritage/culture of those people because, for the most part, they had neither heritage nor culture: What never was cannot be known.
