Apple iPhone 3G [S] vs. HTC/Google Nexus One

The iPhone has the exact same "Google Sync" capability that Android has. You enter the Google account info as if it were an exchange server and you have push email, calendar and contacts just like MobileMe.

If you jailbreak the iPhone OS, and an OS update comes, can you still update the JB'ed iPhone without bricking it?

On the Android, yes, you can root the Android, root it to remove the carrier unlocks and still OS update the OS. In that sense, its similar to Blackberry, where phones that had been unlocked are still eligible for updates and will not brick because of it.

I use a T-Mobile MyTouch 3G. Unlocked. The SIM is DoCoMo's. When it was unlocked it was at Android 1.5. Now its at 1.6.

About OS fracturing, the iPhone market is actually fractured as well, since many JB'ed phones are still at the very OS state when they are jail broken. Fracturing occurs when you don't have your install base at the same OS level as you do.
 
Heh, reading all 8 pages, I am convinced. I never owned either, just an iPod Touch. I love the Touch, but I decided to buy the Nexus One. I hate, hate, HATE (with a passion!!!) iTunes, and second I thoroughly dislike the rigid OS. I know, Jailbreak is the Answer, but I don't want to JB... I want things to be flexible from the start.

So....... Nexus One, fly into my arms! :) I won't even wait till you are introduced here in Canada, which is probably never anyway.
 
Interestingly DoubleTwist claims to be able to sync iPod, iPhones and iPod Touch so iTunes isn't the only way. I love how this thread turned into an iTunes issue.

You seem to get your news really late because while there have been many complaints about the App approval process most devs lately have been extremely happy with changes that have been made recently not only in the speed of approvals, but the amount of communication they receive.

You should always backup your computer and there are tons of 3rd party softwares for retrieving info from an iPod and many of them are free.

Sounds like you all have run out of excuses for Android so now you're turning your attention to iTunes. lol

I don't have any iTunes DRM music so I'm not "locked" to iTunes, but I use it anyways because it works great. iTunes on Windows is terrible, but I use a Mac for most of my computing so I don't have to worry about the generally crappy experience that Windows users have to deal with.

I read a rumour that the 4th gen will have a touch sensitive back cover. :2thumbs: Also since Samsung has an upcoming phone with a built-in projector and a more advanced Super AMOLED screen, I think Apple will probably include them also. Darn, the screen is gonna be better than my Nexus One.

I hope Apple is not just going to add a front facing camera, a 5mp main camera, and a faster processor and calls it revolutionary.
 
That's not a big deal as new Jailbreaks come out very shortly after any update.
The only problem some are having is with the newest bootroms their only choice is a thethered jailbreak.
 
The Android OS is nice..I ended up going back to the IPhone because I thought that the OS was just a little "smoother" around the edges. I also liked how the IPhone integrates so nicely with ITunes. I know you can transfer content back and forth as well with an Android phone...it's just not as seamless though. Just my two cents...
 
Spare me. If iTunes is a source of grief and you have NO OTHER OPTION then what would you expect to hear?

I'm glad you like iTunes and don't prefer being able to use a different system. That does not mean you can just blow off people who feel differently. It is a legitimate concern for which you have no response. Other than trying to change the subject or avert attention somewhere else.

I have never lost data because I keep multiple backups of everything. I have, however, had to assist many people with recovery that didn't have backups. Also, the programs for "dumping" from the iPhone to the PC only recover the songs. I have never found one that could recover playlists and genius information.

The sad point here is that it doesn't have to be this way. I can take my songs from just about every other phone to any other phone via a microSD card swap.

Lastly, I have not made a single excuse for Android and bashing is rather childish so I guess because you can't really defend iTunes you turn to trying to belittle others. How mature is that?

BTW, Double Twist cannot activate an iPhone or Touch and still leaves you with using iTunes for anything other than the music/videos.
 
I'm a previous iPhone user and the more I read about Apple, the more I get mad or frustrated with them and how they're in bed with AT&T. Still, I am impressed to a large degree with the iPhone.

Just today, I became aware of the HTC Desire and I am really interested in this device. Is this the same as the rumoured Nexus 2?

In reference to the Nexus 1.

1. Is there any data compression technology incorporated into the phone while on 3G like the blackberry? The iPhone sucked data like a sponge.

2. Is the battery replacable on the Nexus?

3. Apps. How many apps are out there? Are you restricted to the number of apps you can have? I read that there is a partition on the Nexus' drive that has a limited amount of space for apps.

4. Volume. Is the ringer volume loud? Is the speaker that weak?

I have a PC, and have no problem using iTunes. Even though I don't use an iPhone anymore, I still use iTunes to quickly drag an drop music to my Droid.
 
I just read Howard's Chui's review. It wasn't the best for the N1 even though he did end up liking it. Battery life was criticized and he was running it on 2G. The abundance of apps was mentioned but I havent seen that many. I have to give Apple kudos on how they layout the app store.
 
What about your apps? Or your picasa albums? Iphone google sync does NOT do that...

Also what the other poster was saying is that iphone you have to go to an APP for google and SYNC it manual(if i recall correctly)... Andriod does that from the moment you put the battery in your new phone and power it on... and it continues to do it without any user intervention(if you choose)
