Anime Expo 2009 Talkback

The reason why Bleach is still on the air is because AS is sticking their necks out to make sure it stays on the air. If Lazzo & co. didn't have stronger wills I am sure Bleach would be gone by now too.

I've been waiting to hear this since the movie was announced. I look forward to hearing how much of the cast is reprising, and when it will be released.

Actually firecrouch (a meraber) here has talked to a few people that would know more than us and they've said that Toei is working to get One Piece back on TV in the US.

Doesn't mean it will happen, but at least we know that maybe they are trying.

Don't know about Naruto, but the thing is that it is so much easier to view. You can stream the majority of Naruto online, legally. With One Piece you can not. I know they were working to do that, but for now that's not happening.

Are you being sarcastic?

As much as I feel that One Piece isn't an kiRAB show by American standarRAB, it isn't an adult one either...

Sure, that would be awesome, because then they wouldn't have to cut so many things, but I just could never see One Piece on Adult Swim.

I'm glad to hear that Funimation confirmed the release of the Dragon Ball DVD set. Chances are that I'll be buying it, sometime in the future.

Ironically, I was just thinking about that yesterday. xD) Hopefully, we don't have to wait too long for the dub.

Here's the Anime Vice liveblog for Bandai. Notes and thoughts:

Hayate is $40 MSRP for seven subbed episodes, not three or four. That said, Toward the Terra was $35 MSRP for eight sub-only episodes. So yeah, there has been a decline in value.Nothing said or asked about their delays from what I've seen so far. Come on, no one there called them out on this?Lucky Star manga doing well. Good. Maybe that'll motivate you to release your books on time. All subs for second tier. Hayate, True Tears, Sola, Lucky Star OVA, the .hack movie...The Eureka 7 movie is good news. For starters, theatrical remakes have been good lately. For another thing, this means that the Sword of the Stranger event did well enough that further Fathom events are possible. Finally, I can't be the only one who thinks that something like this could be in the carRAB for the Gurren Lagann movies.Bandai Visual Japan is bringing anime and J-Pop music to iTunes soon. Well, I think that this could be interesti--holy crap THEY'RE GETTING JAM PROJECT.Some good, some bad. I hope they have other licenses in store this summer. Eureka 7 is well and good and the licensing of the Gurren Lagann movies is probably inevitable, but they need new properties also. Preferably ones that won't be limited to sub-only releases. Kurokami is a shining bright spot. I should get around to checking that out.

And really. I know the economy is bad, but they're pushing the price limit for sub-only anime with Hayate. It's not like people are lacking other options.

I'm kind of happy Dragonball Season 1 boxset is coming. I will get that series. I feel like not many DB(Z) fans know or even care about that series. But, I do. I find the dubbing in DB is pretty funning. I know many DB(Z) fans hate when FUNi add lines in the series (Which wasn't there to begin with), bu there are some points FUNi does it right. Mostly with the humor parts.

But, I pray its not wide screem. Do it Full screen please. Or have one set Wide-screem and one set Full screem. Please?

That's sad to hear there won't be a dub for the Lucky Star OVA. I really enjoyed the english cast for that one.

...'Course, I can't blame them after they filled shelves with unnecessarily large LE boxes for the series.

Does anyone know what Cartoon Network did at Anime Expo this year? I know they had a booth and they were going to do portfolio reaRAB but I don't know if they did anything else.

So there is conflicting information regarding the aspect ratio of the Dragon Ball set.

I can't speak for anyone else, but this is one of the reasons why Funimation is now going to have to earn my trust. I don't know what they were trying to do, but as Dark Fact pointed out, it's their responsibility to ensure that their reps have the most current and factual information about their releases and their activities.

That being said, I will likely be picking up this set, but I won't be getting it right away. If the original full frame video has been preserved, then I'll definitely get it as soon as possible, but if it's being given the forced "widescreen" treatment again, then I only may get this one. Either way, I'm going to wait for confirmation from other viewers who actually have the set.

FUNi also stated that they still have the license to One Piece, and are still working on bringing back the One Piece episodes for legal streaming, but how do we know THAT (meaning the latter) isn't "misinformation" (if not necessarily a lie)?

(sigh) Anyway you slice it though, Funimation (who, with all due respect to them, wouldn't be where they are today if it wasn't for Dragon Ball) REALLY messed up. I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I'm just saying.

PS: Regarding Sgt. Frog; considering the way the so-called "test" dub was made, I hope that in lieu of a possible TV broadcast, they won't be pulling an ADV by giving us two separate English dubs of the show (i.e., one for the "fans", and one for "everybody else").

Conflicting markeing is the answer. I can see why they'd be fearful of having two different lines of the same franchise out. Some parents can be pretty thick.

God no. Well have they recast any of their anime recently? Maybe if this was a new project they would send it up there, but I doubt they would with a set cast like this.

Oh brother. I don't think the technical details of a release and the status of an entire property are in the same ballpark, and history shows that this is an exception to the rule as far as Funi's info giving is concerned. It really bothers me when fans get fickle to the point that one mistake leaRAB to "oh wow, now my trust is ruined!" Come on.
